Glaser Tops Day 1 of Event #10: €25,500 Mixed Games Championship; POY Contenders in the Mix

Level 8 : 6,000/12,000, 18,000 ante
Benny Glaser

The first day of Event #10: €25,500 Mixed Games Championship kicked off with a delay of nearly two hours but once the first table started, the players kept coming to join the action and some of the biggest names of the international poker circuit squared off at the tables. After all, there is a coveted gold bracelet at the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe at the King's Resort in Rozvadov up for grabs.

Due to the delay, Day 1 was shortened to eight levels of 60 minutes each and as a result, the late registration will remain open for the first two hour-levels and following break on Day 2. All those that wish to take a shot at the guaranteed prize pool of €1,000,000 can do so as of 3 p.m. local time when the action resumes on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2019.

There are also vital points in the 2019 Player of the Year race up for grabs and Shaun Deeb, Daniel Negreanu and Robert Campbell added another cash to their tally today, however, the competition remains wide open and it was certainly no surprise to see 2019 $50,000 Poker Players Championship winner Phil Hui also enter the field.

At the end of the night, it was a close race between Benny Glaser (2,475,000) and Ivo Donev (2,422,000) for the top spot, while Anthony Zinno follows not far behind with 2,163,000 as the only other player with more than two times the starting stack with 21 players out of 26 entries remaining.

Robert Campbell entered late after his deep run in Event #8: €25,500 Platinum High Roller No-Limit Hold'em and spun it up to 1,742,000, Daniel Negreanu made it through with 1,533,000 after scoring a late double up. Phil Hui claimed 1,281,000 to his name and Shaun Deeb has some work ahead with just 211,000 but he can still re-enter in the first two levels of Day 2 if needed.

Campbell, Negreanu, and Deeb also shared the same table for a while before the growing field was re-balanced for the final two levels of the night.

Other notables through to Day 2 in a field filled with big names are Sam Higgs (1,606,000), Joao Vieira (1,565,000), Dzmitry Urbanovich (1,394,000), David "ODB" Baker (1,325,000), Jeff Lisandro (1,170,000), Dario Sammartino (1,001,000) and Viktor "Isildur1" Blom (881,000).

Among those to bust were Austria's Yusuf Kurt, Phil Hellmuth, Alex Livingston, and Phil Ivey. Only Ivey bought in for a second time so far and ran out of chips after clashing with Ivo Donev in a PLO hand in which he flopped top pair and a gutshot in three-way action that also included Shaun Deeb. Donev looked him up with top two pair and the same gutshot, and there was no help on turn and river.

For Hellmuth, it was all over in the penultimate level of the night. Left short after being caught bluffing by Sam Higgs, he was all in preflop in an Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better hand and his second nut low was not good enough against the nut low of Julien Martini and the top set of Roland Israelashvili.

The late registration for the event closes at the start of level 11 and the penultimate day recommences as of 3 p.m. local time. Keep your eyes locked on PokerNews to find out who masters the eight different poker variants best and become the latest WSOP bracelet winner.

Ivey Eliminated by Donev

Level 7 : 5,000/10,000, 15,000 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Pot-Limit Omaha

With 260,000 in the middle and the flop showing {j-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, Phil Ivey bet the pot for 260,000 in the big blind and Shaun Deeb reluctantly folded from under the gun. Ivo Donev was sent deep into the think tank and he stood up from his chair before eventually raising the pot, Ivey got his stack of around 890,000 in and the following showdown took place.

Phil Ivey: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}{q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Ivo Donev: {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{j-Spades}{9-Spades}

The {3-Hearts} turn and {7-Spades} river run out kept Donev's two pair with jacks and nines ahead, and Ivey was eliminated for a second time.

Livingston Eliminated by Negreanu

Level 7 : 5,000/10,000, 15,000 ante
Alex Livingston
Alex Livingston

Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better

Alex Livingston was suddenly left with just one T-5,000 chip and chopped against Viktor Blom in a battle of the blinds.

He was all in the very next hand when he was on the button. Daniel Negreanu raised and Livingston called all in, Blom and Joao Vieira in the blinds called. They checked the {q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{4-Spades} flop and one bet each went in after the {9-Clubs} turn to go to the {j-Hearts} river with three active players. Action checked to Negreanu and his bet was called only by Blom.

Negreanu announced a jack-high straight and tabled the {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, Blom flashed {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}{j-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Livingston hit the rail with {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}.

Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better

Roland Israelashvili raised the button and Julien Martini called in the small blind, Phil Hellmuth called all in from the big blind.

On the {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} flop, Martini check-called a bet and did so again on the {k-Clubs} turn and {5-Spades} river.

Israelashvili tabled the {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs} for top set while Martini had {k-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs} for the nut low.

Hellmuth double-checked his cards and revealed the {9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} with the words "I have the nut low ... almost."

Ivey First to Bust

Level 6 : 4,000/8,000, 12,000 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

No-Limit Hold'em

Phil Ivey had been left with around 250,000 and open-shoved to steal the blinds and big blind ante once to win the pot but vanished shortly after.

In the final hand of No-Limit Hold'em, he three-bet jammed for 255,000 in the small blind according to Robert Campbell, who called from the big blind and Joao Vieira forfeited his raise to 20,000 on the button.

Campbell added that Ivey had the {q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and the Aussie was well ahead with {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}.

An open-ender on the {j-}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop brought some hope of a comeback for Ivey on the first bullet while the {5-Clubs} turn reduced his outs, as Campbell had the superior flush draw. The river came the {j-Diamonds} and that ended Ivey's first bullet in the event.

Benny Glaser
Benny Glaser

Pot-Limit Omaha

In a battle of the blinds, the flop showed {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and Anthony Zinno check-called a bet by Benny Glaser to see the {k-Spades} appear on the turn. Zinno now led for 75,000 and Glaser raised it up to 300,000. A reluctant call by Zinno resulted in the {9-Diamonds} river and Zinno checked.

Glaser made it 240,000 to go and that ended up winning the pot without showdown, as Zinno folded.

No-Limit Hold’em

Phil Hellmuth in the big blind checked the {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{8-Spades} turn and called a bet of 53,000 by Sam Higgs from under the gun to see the {7-Hearts} on the river. Hellmuth checked once more and Higgs tossed in a bet of 200,000.

No call followed as Hellmuth folded and Higgs double-checked his cards. He picked them up again and showed to the rail without any other players being able to see them, which prompted some table chat from Hellmuth.

"Every time they do that, they are bluffing me," Hellmuth remarked.

Joining the action on the {9-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} turn, Benny Glaser bet 46,000 in the hijack and Shaun Deeb made the call on the button to see the {2-Diamonds} on the river. Glaser now bet 120,000 and Deeb quickly flicked in a T-100,000 chip for the call.

Glaser turned over {j-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a full house and Deeb mucked.
