2023 Champ Max Neugebauer and Ran Ilani Chase History on Day 4 of the WSOP Europe Main Event

Max Neugebauer
Max Neugebauer

The World Series of Poker expanded across the Atlantic for the first time in 2007. In the nearly two decades since the WSOP Europe was created, just two players, both legends, have managed to make the Main Event final table twice. Today on Day 4, there are not one, but two players with a chance to make their own history.

Max Neugebauer, the Austrian former pro basketball player who literally towers over the rest of the field, won this event in 2023. Ran Ilani, meanwhile, finished third last year. They are both among the 37 players who will return to King’s Resort in Rozvadov at 1 p.m., local time to battle for the final table as they try to join Daniel Negreanu and Jason Mercier as two-time WSOP Europe finalists.

To get there, they and the rest of the field will have to try to silence Martin Kabrhel. The loquacious, flamboyant five-time bracelet winner put on a show yesterday on his way to taking the chip lead with 4,815,000. Kabrhel already won the €10,000 Omaha event this series, and another in Las Vegas during the summer.

The action on Day 4 picks up on Level 22 with blinds of 20,000/40,000 and a 40,000 big blind ante. The remaining 37 players are guaranteed €31,000 for making it this far out of the 659-entry field, while a spot at the eight-handed final table is worth at least €110,000. The eventual champion earns €1,140,000 and the coveted Main Event gold bracelet.

All the action will be streamed on King’s Resort’s official YouTube channel. The plan is to play down to the final table today before a champion is crowned tomorrow.

A spot at the final table and in the poker record books awaits, so stay tuned as PokerNews follows all the action here in Rozvadov.

"Not Like That!": Kabrhel Leaves Pustina Short

Level 22 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

In a limped pot between the blinds, Vlastimil Pustina and Martin Kabrhel saw a flop of K85.

Kabrhel complained to tournament officials about Pustina covering up his face as Pustina led out for 50,000. Kabrhel called and the 5 fell on the turn. Pustina then checked and Kabrhel bet 225,000.

"I hope I'm not giving out any tells," Kabrhel said while Pustina called. "Not like that! Houston, we have a real problem," he shouted out as the 3 fell on the river.

"Seven sixty," Kabrhel yelled out, putting in 760,000. Pustina snap-called. "Casino Royale!" Kabrhel shouted, turning over 54 for trips as Pustina mucked AK.

Gerald Karlic raised to 80,000 in the cutoff and Catalin Pop and Max Neugebauer called in the blinds.

The flop came QJ10 and Karlic continued for 55,000. Pop folded, but Neugebauer moved all in for 165,000. Karlic snap-called.

Max Neugebauer: 98 All in
Gerald Karlic: QQ

Karlic had flopped top set, but Neugebauer had a straight. "That's funny," Karlic said. He needed to fill up to earn the knockout, but Neugebauer held on through the 5 turn and K river to double up.

Level 22 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Jonas Lauck
Jonas Lauck

Ferdinando D'Alessio raised to 80,000 from the hijack and Jonas Lauck three-bet the cutoff to 225,000. D'Alessio called when the action got back to him.

D'Alessio knuckled the action over to Lauck on the 97A flop, and Lauck fired out a continuation-bet of 150,000. D'Alessio went for the most aggressive option as he check-raised to 325,000. Lauck continued with a call.

D'Alessio bet out for 450,000 after the K rolled off on the turn. Again, Lauck just called.

The 6 completed the board and D'Alessio opted to check. Lauck jammed, putting D'Alessio all in for his stack of 850,000, and D'Alessio instantly folded.

Maccatrozzo Eliminated by Pidun

Level 22 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Luca Maccatrozzo
Luca Maccatrozzo

The action folded to Luca Maccatrozzo in the small blind and he pushed all-in. On the other side of the dealer, Daniel Pidun asked for an exact count on the shove. It happened to be for 590,000 and Pidun called.

Luca Maccatrozzo: A9 All in
Daniel Pidun: 88

The Italian had doubled very close to the money bubble with ace-nine suited when he made top pair, but this time the KQ7102 board chan ged nothing to send Maccatrozzo to the rail in 37th place as the first casualty on Day 4.

Ratmir Kesidis
Ratmir Kesidis

Daniele Sacchi raised to 80,000 in early position and was called by Ratmir Kesidis and Murilo Garcia in the blinds.

Sacchi bet 110,000 on the K34 flop and Kesidis called. Garcia then raised to 325,000 and Sacchi folded, but Kesidis moved all in for 1,395,000. Garcia burned through three time banks before calling to put Kesidis at risk.

Ratmir Kesidis: 33 All in
Murilo Garcia: A7

Kesidis had flopped a set and needed to hold on against Garcia's flush draw. The 8 turn left him a card away from a double up, but Garcia spiked the J on the river to make his flush and send Kesidis to the rail.

Yuhan Wang

Marco Di Persio made it 80,000 from early position and Teemu Jaatinen called from the hijack. Yuhan Wang squeezed all in for 935,000 from the button, forcing Di Persio to fold. Jaatinen, however, made the call to try to bust Wang.

Yuhan Wang: AQ All in
Teemu Jaatinen: 77

Wang took a commanding lead in the flip by pairing his queen on the 35Q flop. Wang improved to two pair on the A turn and stayed ahead through the 4 river, earning himself the double-up.

Wang commented, "It was always a sweat against sevens," then went on to mention how he spiked a one-outer with sevens on the river yesterday while on the stream.
