Less Tables, Moorman

With my section upstairs whittled down to just the one table, I found myself watching online whiz Chris Moorman at the felt. A very quiet player at the table, he seemed fairly active without going over the top, raising once a round and putting in the occasional three bet from the blinds.

On one hand he raised to 1,400 preflop and another aggressive player called from the small blind. The flop rolled out {Q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{7-Spades} and Moorman made a continuation bet of 2,400 which was subsequently called.

Both players checked the {J-Hearts} turn, and although he appeared tempted to fire a shot, Moorman checked the {9-Diamonds} river. Much to his relief, his opponent announced "Ace high" and Moorman won the pot with {5-Diamonds}{5s].

Moorman is currently going great guns with around 50,000 in chips.

Ivey Chops One

A player moved all in from middle position for 2,025. Phil Ivey was in the small blind and reraised to 4,000, knocking the big blind out of the way in order to isolate against the all-in player. Ivey held the {A-Spades}{3-Spades} and his at-risk opponent the {A-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}.

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Spades} and the two players chopped up the pot.

More Ivey Effect

Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

A little while back, we featured an article called The Ivey Effect discussing how Phil Ivey influences the poker world like no one else. Well, just a moment ago there was another instance of that influence in effect.

One of the players at his table, Willie Tann, said to Ivey, "Hey Phil, when you're done can I have your hat?"

Ivey moved his headphones from his ears and perked his head up.

"When you're finished, can I have your hat?" Tann asked a second time.

Ivey looked confused for a second and then shrugged his shoulders and nodded.

"It's for a friend of mine, he'd really love it," said Tann.

Ivey smiled looking as though he was wondering why anyone would want his used Full Tilt Poker hat. Either way, he said it'd be fine. Tann then turned towards the rail behind him and yelled over to his friend that he was able to lock up the hat for him. The railbird looked simply amazed and was astonished at what was to come. Ivey smiled.

"He's one of your biggest fans," Tann said to Ivey.

Or is a bracelet a bracelet?"

We're getting input from the pros on this question too, and we'd love to include some of your responses in a video on the subject. So Facebook us and give us your thoughts!

Grinded Down

Michael Mizrachi three-bet all in with {10-}{10-}, but came unstuck against {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs} which improved to a flush. He may have won the Poker Players Championship during the Summer, but he'll have to wait a few more days before winning his next bracelet.

Going Through the Motions

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Phil Laak caught out eye as we were counting down his stack, and he was kind enough to help us out. "Forty-niiiiiiine," he said wryly.

From the adjacent table, Phil Hellmuth decided to strike up a conversation. "Laak, you gotta go through the motions, baby," he said cryptically.

"Forty-nine diiiiiimes," was Laak's reply to that.

"Forty-nine? I got... like... forty-five hundred," Hellmuth responded (inflating his count by about 1,000 for what it's worth). "You got, like, ten times what I do. But I'm still gonna go through the motions, baby."

On the next deal, Hellmuth went through the motions -- of raising. He slid out 1,800 to commit more than half of his remaining stack preflop. A player in the blinds shrugged and re-raised him all in, and Hellmuth put his last few chips into the pot, now at risk of elimination.

The player in the blinds turned up {K-Hearts} {9-Spades}, and Hellmuth sunk in his chair. "Dang. You got me in bad shape, buddy. I got king-eight." The Brat tabled his {K-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} to prove it, and he was going to need some help to stay around.

And help is just he would get. The board ran {10-Spades} {10-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}, and both men play their king kickers. "Ah ha! Split pot!" It was indeed a chop-chop, and Hellmuth adds 675 chips to his stack by taking half the blinds and antes. That's not much, but it is close to 20% of The Brat's stack.

Brown Downed

Chad Brown
Chad Brown

I'm unsure as to when the chips hit the middle (although I would assume the flop), but Chad Brown hit the deck with {6-Clubs}{2-Clubs} versus {A-Clubs}{9-Hearts} on a {9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{9-Clubs} board.

There was a long kafuffle as they sorted out the chips and confirmed Brown's exit, to which the tournament director offered his apology for the painful delay.

"It all right," responded Chad as he rose from his seat. "It makes me feel like I lasted longer."

Lisandro Still Chipping Up

After an opponent opened with a preflop raise to 1,400. Jeffrey Lisandro three-bet to 3,900. The original raiser called and the two saw a flop of {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. The first player checked and Lisandro fired out 4,000. His opponent folded and Lisandro chipped back up to 66,000 rather easily.

Kenney Calls with King High and Wins

The flop read {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs} between Nico Behling and Bryn Kenney. Behling was up first and checked. Kenney fired 3,800 and Behling made the call. The turn card brought the {3-Diamonds} and both players checked.

The river card completed the board with the {10-Diamonds}. Behling fired out 6,000 and this bet sent Kenney into the tank. Kenney thought for a bit, double checked his hand, thought for a bit more, put the call amount to the side and then finally tossed it in. Behling sheepishly turned over the {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} knowing he couldn't be good. Kenney held the {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades} for just king high and picked off Behling's bluff nicely to put his stack to 50,000 in chips. Behling dropped to 32,200.
