Bjorin Takes One From Ivey

Ivey button raised to 500 and Chris Bjorin defended in the big blind. Bjorin then check-called a bet of 600 on the {9-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop before checking down the {10-Diamonds} turn and leading out for 800 on the {Q-Hearts} river. Ivey immediately made the fold.

Despite this setback, Ivey is still flying high with 27,500.

Howard's Way

A super short-stacked Howard Lederer has just managed to become a mere averagely short-stack.

He had called Michael Mizrachi's open from the big blind before check-raising all-in on a {10-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {4-} board. Mizrachi made obligatory call with {8-Spades} {6-Spades} for the double gutshot, behind to Lederer's {K-Spades} {10-Spades} and failed to catch a nine or five on the {10-Clubs} turn and {8-Diamonds} river.

Lederer is back up to 6,000 while Mizrachi still has about 15,000.

Bansi Up, Hellmuth Down

The flop was {K-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Spades} when Praz Bansi called a bet of 750 in position on his opponent to see the {4-Spades} fall on the turn. Both players checked fourth street and that brought them to see the {9-Clubs} hit the river. The first player checked and Bansi fired 1,250. His opponent folded and Bansi scooped the pot.

Upon a chip count of Bansi's stack after the hand, he's up to about 43,000. Bansi recently moved to Phil Hellmuth's table, who had nearly 30,000 a little while ago. When we looked at his stack after Bansi won this pot, Hellmuth only had 9,725. Seeing as Bansi came to the table with about 25,000 or so, it figures that he took a few chips off Hellmuth.

Flushed Out

"I lost to the boss," reported James 'Royal Flush' Dempsey who has just been eliminated from the event. "I pushed for 14 bigs with {Q-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and Phil [Ivey] looked me up with {A-}{9-}. It's one all though because I knocked him out of the 10K Hi-Low in the Series."

No Laak of Chips

Phil Laak
Phil Laak

Phil Laak, complete with red mohawk and Union Jack cast, is up to 27,500 after eliminating a short stack. He called 2,700 on the turn of {7-Spades}{K-Clubs}{3-Spades}{K-Hearts} board with {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} before evading a drawtastic {5-Spades}{4-Spades} on the {3-Hearts} river.

Blondeau Busts One

After the cutoff seat moved all in for 2,600, Rudy Blondeau made the call from the button. The two blinds folded and the hands were revealed. Blondeau held the {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} up against his opponent's {Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts}.

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{A-Clubs} and Blondeau earned the elimination to move up to 19,000.

Annette 0-brestad

Down to just 2,175 chips, 2007's WSOPE Main Event champion Annette Obrestad moved all in before the flop holding {K-Diamonds} {10-Spades}. An opponent called her down with {5-Clubs} {5-Diamonds}, and the race was on.

The board frowned on Annette, though, running out {J-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {5-Spades} {A-Clubs}. King-high is no good against trip fives, and Obrestad's day is done. Perhaps she'll be playing the £200 mega satellite tomorrow? All right, nevermind, we'll probably see her on Thursday for Event #2 instead.

Despite her exit, Annette told our own Gloria Balding that she's happy with her performance, particularly because she outlasted her boyfriend in their last-longer bet. It's anyone's guess what the terms of the bet were.
