Brian Yoon Leads 23 Players on Day 2 of Wynn Spring Classic $1 Million Guarantee

Day 2 of the Wynn Spring Classic $1 million guarantee has concluded from Wynn Las Vegas with the 687-entrant field reduced to the final 23 players heading into the final day of play. Leading those players is Brian Yoon who finished with 1,890,000 in chips.

Yoon is the most accomplished player remaining with over $5.15 million in lifetime tournament earnings which includes three WSOP bracelets. Although Yoon's career dates back to 2011 where he has collected a total of 97 cashes, this is Yoon's first cash at Wynn Las Vegas - and if he can continue the momentum he picked up on Day 2 - it might also come in the form of a victory.

Sitting on Yoon's heels is Jerry Xiong who finished with 1,855,000. Xiong's rise up the leaderboard came courtesy of a well-timed turn card that saw him improve to a full house as his opponent Jiei Tsutsui shoved with overcards and a flush draw to be drawing dead. Xiong rode out the final few orbits of play and sits second overall ahead of James Hundt (1,470,000), Charles Davis (1,285,000), and Kevin Buck (1,270,000). Five other players sit in the seven-figure club as Nikolaos Platis, Mike Hack, Peter Vitantonio, Jim Pennella, and Spencer Champlin round out the leaderboard.

The final 23 players are currently all guaranteed $8,012 in prize money while reaching the final table of nine will earn them at least $19,062 in prize money. For the player that can ascend the mountain and be crowned the champion, they will collect the $189,485 first-place prize and the Wynn Spring Classic championship trophy.

Entering Day 2, 177 players returned to action but the likes of Jack Salter, Ankush Mandavia, Scott Clements, Jim Agate, Eric Baldwin, Katie Lindsay, Kathy Liebert, Ben Palmer, Jack McClelland, Michael Wang, and David Pham would be some of the notables falling short of the money. Unfortunately for Veselin Dimitrov, he would be eliminated on the money bubble when he was all in holding ace-queen suited with just two big blinds and would be four-card-flushed by Yeow Chong's king-jack.

Louis Salter, John Morgan, Steve Gross, Dan Heimiller, Adam Hendrix, Jared Jaffee, Denise Pratt, Mike Del Vecchio, Arden Cho, Julian Parmann, Dylan Wilkerson, David Jackson, and Shannon Shorr were all eliminated in-the-money.

Day 3 action is set to begin at 12 p.m. (PT) on Monday, March 9, from the Wynn Las Vegas with the PokerNews Live Reporting Team providing continuous live updates until the champion is crowned. Stay tuned to PokerNews.com for continued coverage of the Wynn Spring Classic.
