Platt Finds Call to Bust Opponent

Level 4 : 200/400, 400 ante
Jeff Platt
Jeff Platt

With roughly 35,000 in the pot on a {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} board, a hijack player bet 13,500, and Jeff Platt called on the button.

The {9-Spades} completed the board and the hijack jammed for 20,500. Platt barely had his opponent covered and looked at the board while mulling over his decision. Eventually, he put in the calling chips.

The hijack flipped over {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}, while Platt tabled {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} to collect the pot and send his opponent to the rail.

Ostapchenko Doubles Through Shelechi

Level 3 : 200/300, 300 ante
Andrew Ostapchenko
Andrew Ostapchenko

Andrew Ostapchenko opened to 600 from under the gun and received calls from a player on the button, the small blind, and Mehrdad Shelechi out of the big blind.

Both blinds checked after the {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop and Ostapchenko continued for 800. The button and small blind both called before Shelechi raised to 3,000. Ostapchenko counted out his stack before moving all in, eliciting quick folds from both the button and small blind players and a snap-call from Shelechi, who had Ostapchenko covered.

Andrew Ostapchenko: {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Mehrdad Shelechi: {q-Spades}{5-Spades}

Ostapchenko was at risk and behind, needing to catch a diamond to make the nut flush. The {6-Spades} turn changed nothing but the {10-Diamonds} river provided the diamond Ostapchenko was looking for, handing him a full double up.

McKellar Scores Double Knockout

Level 3 : 200/300, 300 ante
Pierce McKellar
Pierce McKellar

With roughly 20,000 in the pot on a {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} flop, Pierce McKellar bet 4,000 in the small blind, a middle position player called, and the cutoff called.

The {4-Clubs} landed on the turn and McKellar moved in his stack of 30,200. Both opponents called all in and were covered.

Cutoff: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Middle Position: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Pierce McKellar: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

"Brick one time," McKellar pleaded.

The {5-Clubs} river did just that to keep McKellar ahead with his cowboys.

"That's what we're looking for!" McKellar exclaimed. "Yeah PokerNews, write that down," he said as he scooped the pot and soared to the top of the early Day 1a leaderboard.

Wynn Summer Classic
Wynn Summer Classic

The 2022 Wynn Summer Classic continues at Wynn Las Vegas and Day 1a of the $3,500 NLH Championship will begin shortly at noon local time.

During last year’s Wynn Summer Classic, the $3,500 NLH event had a million-dollar guarantee and was won by Chance Kornuth. This year, it’s the premier tournament of the series and features a massive $3,500,000 guarantee.

There are three starting flights and unlimited reentry is permitted per starting flight. Registration and reentries for each starting flight will be available until the start of level 10. Players will begin the tournament with 40,000 in chips and blinds will begin at 100/100/100. Levels are 40 minutes each on Day 1 and will increase to 60 minutes each on Day 2 and Day 3.

Day 1a will play 15 levels or until approximately 11% of the field remains. All other starting flights will play the same amount of time as Day 1a. Day 2 plays ten 60-minute levels on Monday, June 27, and Day 3 plays 60-minute levels on Tuesday, June 28 until a winner is declared.

This championship event of the 2022 Wynn Summer Classic series features the largest guarantee, although more tournaments are on the agenda through July 20. Less than a week ago, Manuel Machado won the $2,200 Wynn Mystery Bounty event for $410,485 plus bounties, and there are several more anticipated tournaments in the series featuring large guarantees.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be bringing updates throughout the entire Wynn Summer Classic $3,500 NLH Championship event, so stay tuned for the action coming up soon.
