Wynn Summer Classic Daily Recap: Sturm Leads $25k 8-max FT; Wynn Summer Championship Completes Day 2

On June 30, the Wynn Summer Championship played down to 81 players at the Wynn Summer Classic.

While the festival's main event whittled down its field, two one-day $1,100 NLH tournaments crowned winners, and the $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-Max chewed through its Day 1 field, leaving just the final table.

With 1,537 entries and a prize pool of $15,062,600, the Wynn Summer Classic is a massive event.

Yesterday, this event took the 551 Day 1 survivors and ground them down to nine full-ring tables.

Graeme Newman came into Day 2 with the biggest stack, but finished the day in the middle of the pack with 690,000.

Replacing Newman as the chip leader is Konstantin Held with 3,950,000 in chips. Behind him is Gregor Sverko (3,425,000) and Yulian Bogdanov (3,015,000) all within reasonable reach of one another.

Among those who are still fighting for the championship are Julien Sitbon (2,020,000) who remains in the top ten, Faraz Jaka (1,175,000), Kevin Rabichow (1,040,000), Chino Rheem (765,000), Christoph Vogelsang (755,000), and Rainer Kempe (725,000).

High stakes crushers Chris Brewer (275,000) , David Peters (255,000), and Kristen Foxen (160,000) are also hanging in there with some of the smallest stacks of the day.

The 81 surviving players will return at midday today for Day 3, when they will play down to the final table.

Sturm Blows Past Competition To Lead $25k 8-Max Final Table

The $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-Max kicked off yesterday.

After a leisurely start — with a chunk of the field making use of the late registration option — a total of 41 players eventually entered the event.

After a full day of playing no-limit hold'em, only seven of these players remained with German high roller regular, Leon Sturm leading the table.

Sturm has 2,235,000 in his stack, giving him a small lead over Mikita Badziakouski, who is in a close second with 2,010,000 in chips.

Aleksejs Ponakovs, another regular on the high roller circuit, is in third with 1,495,000 in chips.

As you might expect with an event like this, there are several other sharks in the mix. The final seven is rounded out by Brandon Wittmeyer (1,020,000), Sam Soverel (710,000), David Chen (430,000), and Santhosh Suvarna (300,000).

All seven will return at 1 p.m. today to complete the event.

Namhyung Kim Wins $1,100 Turbo For $51,144

Namhyung Kim came first.

Namhyung Kim emerged victorious in yesterday's $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Turbo ($100K GTD).

Kim defeated Vladimir Heinich heads up to collect $51,144 and a Wynn Summer Classic trophy.

That $51,144 slice of pie was cut from the $218,400 prize pool generated by the 224 entries to the event.

Heinich earned $31,619 for his second-place finish, with Shai Zurr rounding out the podium positions by winning $23,061 for third place.

There will be another $1,100 NLH Turbo event held this evening.

Pora Collects $87,402 For $1,100 NLH Victory

Dumitru Pora won the event.

Dumitru Pora emerged victorious in the $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($250K GTD), held at the Wynn Summer Classic yesterday.

Pora won $87,402 for his first-place finish and Oshri Azran took home $57,325 for coming second.

Just below them in third was Olivio Gontijo from Brazil, who won $44,291. Gontijo was one of three Brazilians who dominated the final nine, along with Breno Drumond Avelino (5th - $34,929), and Amauri Grutka (7th - $15,344).

These players were originally part of a 477-player field that generated a $465,075 prize pool. This is one of the bigger turnouts for the festival's one-day events and may be replicated later today when a similar $1,100 NLH event kicks off.

What's Happening On July 1?

Today will be a busy one with Day 3 of the Wynn Summer Championship, the final table of the $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-max, two of the staple $1,100 NLH tourneys (one of which is Turbo, as usual), and a Milestone Satellite to a second $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-max.

The Wynn Summer Championship starts the day with 81 players returning to play down to the final table. Day 3 of the event begins at 12 p.m.

The final table of the $25,800 No Limit Hold'em begins at 1 p.m.

At the same time, play begins on a $1,100 No Limit Hold'em ($250k). Late registration is available until around 5:30 p.m.

With another $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-max event due to start tomorrow, today there will be a $3,000 Milestone Satellite to $25,800 NLH. This event begins at 5 p.m. and late registration is open until around 8:40 p.m., but there is a discount available for players who buy in early.

Then to round the day off, at 6 p.m., there is a $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Turbo ($100k GTD). This takes the same format as the previous editions of this event with 20-minute blind levels and late registration until 9 p.m.
