Wynn Summer Classic Daily Recap: Quan Zhou Leads PLO Mystery Bounty Into Day 2; Brandon Wittmeyer Wins $25k 8-Max

July 3 at the Wynn Summer Classic centered around the action of the $3,000 PLO Mystery Bounty which had the second of its two starting flights.

Additionally, the second $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-Max event of the festival declared a winner from the five Day 1 survivors. And the $1,600 NLH Mystery Bounty kicked off while a one-day $1,100 event played out in full.

$3,000 PLO Mystery Bounty Is All Set For Day 2

Quan Zhou took over as the chip leader in $3,000 PLO Mystery Bounty when he finished Day 1B of the event with a bag of 1,090,000 in chips. Zhou is a regular on the higher roller circuit in East Asia and has made three final table appearances at this year's World Series Of Poker.

Jonathan Bowers was the Day 1A chip leader with 992,000. Zhou knocked Bowers down to second place, while Kyle Knecht slid into third with 881,000.

Only three other members Day 1A top ten chip stacks managed to keep a spot in the top ten.

The total number of entries to the event was 835 players, of which 164 found a bag for Day 2. Day 2 begins at 1 p.m. today.

At the start of Day 2, each player receives a bounty chip. When a player knocks another player out, they collect the banished player's bounty chip and then trade it in for a randomized bounty of between $1,000 and $100,000.

Brandon Wittmeyer Wins $25k NLH 8-Max Event For $302,837

Five players returned to the felt yesterday to battle it out for the $302,837 first-place prize in the $25,800 No Limit Hold'em 8-Max. These were the remaining combatants from a 35-player field that generated a $875,000 prize pool.

All of the top five spots were paid.

David Chen came into the day with the chip lead and was able to use that to jockey for position right up until the final moments when Brandon Wittmeyer busted him heads up.

Wittmeyer won $302,837 for his first-place finish, while Chen won $260,000.

Brek Schutten came third, earning $146,563.

Overlay In $250k Guaranteed $1,100 NLH Event

Yesterday's $1,100 No Limit Hold'em came with a $250,000 guarantee on which the Wynn had to make good. With only 240 entries, the event came close to the guarantee but failed to break it, forcing the Wynn to top the prize pool up to a nice round quarter million.

As a result, there was a little extra sugar in Shigeo Marumoto's first-place prize of $51,145. Marumoto made this score after beating Stephen Kehoe heads up.

Kehoe won $35,562 for coming in second.

The $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Turbo ($100k GTD) attracted a field of 239 entries. Down a bit after the big turnouts earlier in the week, while the Wynn Summer Championship was still playing out.

Even so, this turnout put a very respectable $233,025 in the pot. Francisco De Belaustegui won his cut of this pot after negotiating a three-way deal that netted him $39,831 for first place.

The other parties to this chop were Vito Branciforte, who earned $34,350 for second and Gabriel Simmons, who took home $31,387 for third.

What's Happening On July 4?

The $3,000 PLO Mystery Bounty moves on to Day 2 at 1 p.m. today, playing down to the final bounty before the end of day.

While the PLO Mystery Bounty moves on to Day 2, the $1,600 No Limit Hold'em Mystery Bounty begins. This event has its first starting flight at midday. Late registration runs until 7:30 p.m and the mystery bounties kick in at the beginning of Day 2.

In the evening there are two events. The first is a $1,100 No Limit Hold'em Turbo with a $100,000 guarantee and late registration until 9 p.m.

The second is at 7 p.m. and will be a $300 Milestone Satellite to $1,600 Mystery Bounty. This event starts with 20,000 starting stacks, 20-minute blind levels, and late registration until 10 p.m.
