2012 PokerStars SCOOP Day 6: Barbero, Deeb, ElkY Each Make Final Tables

Day 6 of the 2012 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) at PokerStars was a busy one with 15 tournaments on the docket. Twelve crowned champions and among them was Tim "TurnRiva" Marsters. Several notables came close with Jose "nachobarbero" Barbero, Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb, William "Altrum Altus" Reynolds, and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier all making final table appearances. Meanwhile, Igor "lechuckpoker" Kurganov is looking to add to a SCOOP title to go along with his PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final High Roller title.

PokerStars SCOOP 12-H: $2,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Heads-Up Two-Day ($200K Guaranteed)

Four players punched their tickets to Day 2 with undefeated Day 1s and here were their paths to the final four:

"Shizzleness" was the first to punch a ticket through to the championship match, defeating Paul "paulgees81" Volpe. With a 3:2 lead, "Shizzleness" min-raised to 120 on the button. Volpe potted to 360, "Shizzleness" called, and an A♣Q♦8♦ flop fell. Volpe put out a continuation bet of 420, quickly receiving a call from "Shizzleness." When the 3♦ hit the turn, Volpe check-called 840. The 9♣ river brought more of the same as Volpe check-called again, this time for his entire stack. "Shizzleness" tabled Q♣J♦6♦3♠ for a flush, besting Volpe's 8♥7♦4♦2♥ for a smaller flush.

Not long after, "kmpk90" defeated "BriDge2PaiN." The chips went in after a series of raises after the K♥7♦4♥ flop. "BriDge2PaiN" tabled A♦K♣8♥2♥ for top pair and flush draw while "kmpk90" showed 6♥5♥3♣2♣ for a smaller flush draw, but also multiple straight draws. The 6♣ turn filled one of those draws, as did the 8♦ river to set the championship match.

A deal was briefly discussed, but no agreement was reached. Slightly trailing, "Shizzleness" won a key hand en route to winning the match. On the button, "Shizzleness" raised. A call from "kmpk90" landed a Q♦5♠3♠ flop which "kmpk90" check-raised. A bet-call from "Shizzleness" resulted in the 7♥ turn which "kmpk 90 bet at. "Shizzleness" called and upon seeing "kmpk90" check the river, "Shizzleness" shoved. A call from "kmpk90" revealed A♦8♥5♥5♦ for a set, but that was beat by the 6♥5♣4♣3♣ of "Shizzleness."

The match ended 23 hands later when on a board of K♣K♦3♦J♠2♠, "Shizzleness'" river bet led to an all-in call from "kmpk90" with A♦K♥9♠7♠ for three kings. "Shizzleness" turned over J♦J♣8♦4♣ for jacks full of kings, winning the match and earning the SCOOP victory.

PokerStars SCOOP 12-M: $200 Pot-Limit Omaha Heads-Up ($100K Guaranteed)

From a starting field of 939, eight players went undefeated on Day 1 to reserve the chance on Day 2 of earning the SCOOP victory. Only one of the eight would remain undefeated and that was "Krumpir." It was no easy task, but "Krumpir" defeated the 2011 WCOOP Main Event Champion Thomas "Kallllle" Pedersen to start, online beast Chris "Moorman1" Moorman in the middle, and Carter "devinr12" Gill to earn the triumph.

PokerStars SCOOP 12-L: $25 Pot-Limit Omaha Heads-Up ($50K Guaranteed)

Sixteen players emerged from the starting field of 3,313 with reservations for Day 2. Four wins separated each from a place in the SCOOP victory row and "kmoh20" was the one to get it done, earning $7,639.80 for the win following a deal.

PokerStars SCOOP 13-H: $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em Knockout Two-Day ($400K Guaranteed)

Entering the final table with the chip lead of Event 13-H was "whereisdonny" thanks to this hand. A series of preflop raised led to "K_0_S_T_Y_A" being all in for about 32 big blinds with K♣K♠. Holding Q♣Q♥ and about double the stack size, "whereisdonny" scored the elimination when the board ran out A♦J♥9♥Q♦9♠ to set up the final table. Here was how they stacked up:

The first to fall was "zugzwang16" at the 3,500/7,000/875 level. Giuseppe “Ansgar2000″ Pantaleo shoved under the gun for 97,830 and "zugzwang16" re-raised all-in for less than an ante more. The rest of the table ducked out and "zugzwang16" tabled J♦J♠ to Pantaleo's Q♠Q♦. The board rolled out 8♥2♥2♣10♥5♥ to give the pot to Pantaleo, leaving "zugzwang16" with less than an ante before busting on the following hand.

A short-stacked "Fiskin1" was down to about four big blinds before shoving with K♣10♠ from the cutoff. Giuseppe “Ansgar2000″ Pantaleo called with Q♠J♠ from the big blind and collected that pot as the board fell J♣J♦9♣6♦2♣, eliminating "Fiskin1" in eighth place.

The next elimination came in the form of a double at 4,000/8,000/1,000. It started when "whereisdonny" opened to 16,560 under the gun. Josh "JBT449" Bergman called from the hijack, as did "ROSTBURK" from the cutoff. When action folded to Rory "Mafews" Mathews in the big blind, he jammed for 175,064. "whereisdonny" folded over to Bergman who re-raised all in for 220,443. "ROSTBURK" called with a covering stack and revealed J♣J♠ which was well ahead of Bergman's 9♣9♥ and Mathews' 6♥6♠. The A♦Q♠8♣2♣10♠ board brought no help to either, leaving only five players remaining.

"ROSTBURK" scored the next knockout as well, sending Ami "UhhMee" Barer to the rail. "whereisdonny" opened to 16,560 in the cutoff and was called by Barer on the button. "ROSTBURK" squeezed from the small blind to 51,500, which folded action back to Barer. He proceeded to jam for 340,203 with K♦Q♠ and "ROSTBURK" looked him up with 10♥10♠. Nothing helpful came for Barer as the board ran out 6♦3♥2♣7♦A♥.

Things didn't slow down for "ROSTBURK" just yet. At 5,000/10,000/1,000, Giuseppe “Ansgar2000″ Pantaleo four-bet shoved for 216,412 after opening from the cutoff. "ROSTBURK," who had three-bet from the small blind, called with 7♦7♥ and defeated Q♠J♠ when the A♥5♦3♥3♦2♦ board didn't help Pantaleo.

Three-handed play began with "ROSTBURK" holding 1,604,490 to "WushuTM's" 502,452 and "whereisdonny's" 397,608. It lasted for about an hour and 20 minutes before "WushuTM" busted in third. At the 7,000/14,000/1,750 level, "ROSTBURK" opened to 30,800 from the small blind and "WushuTM" re-raised all in from the big blind for 269,478. "ROSTBURK" called with 6♥6♣, racing against the A♠K♣ of "WushuTM." The board ran out a safe 10♠7♥3♣2♣5♠ for "ROSTBURK," giving the Swede five straight eliminations entering heads-up play with more than a 2:1 chip lead.

The match went back and forth with "whereisdonny" grabbing the lead, but in the end, "ROSTBURK" emerged victorious. On the final hand at 10,000/20,000/2,500, "whereisdonny" opened to 41,500 on the button. "ROSTBURK" popped it to 102,500 from the big blind, "whereisdonny" called, and an A♦7♣3♠ flop followed. A bet of 81,500 from "ROSTBURK" was called by "whereisdonny," leading to the 8♠ turn. "ROSTBURK" slowed down and checked, calling when "whereisdonny" bet 142,000 to see the 6♠ river. Another check from "ROSTBURK" led to another bet from "whereisdonny." This one, though, was all-in for 880,830. There was no decision from "ROSTBURK" who called quickly and tabled the nuts, A♠5♠. "whereisdonny's" move with Q♥9♠ fell short, but he still earned an excellent pay day of $140,280.

"ROSTBURK" owned the final table to the tune of $190,380.

PokerStars SCOOP 13-M: $200 No-Limit Hold'em Knockout Two-Day ($300K Guaranteed)

Of the 3,329 player field, 26 lasted a grueling Day 1 and still had a chance to earn a SCOOP title on Day 2. Among those who came up of the final table on Day 2 was Christian "C.K." Kruel. He began the day eighth in chips, but ultimately camp up short with a 13th-place finsh worth $3,162.55. Following a four-handed deal, "trujustrus" emerged with the lions share of the money and the win.

PokerStars SCOOP 13-L: $25 No-Limit Hold'em Knockout Two-Day ($200K Guaranteed)

Though they were the biggest names remaining, Owen "ocrowe" Crowe (second to start the day), Seth "SFisch4" Fischer (7th), and Griffin "Flush_Entity" Benger (12th) came up short of the final table in this one. Crowe exited early in 30th place ($605.40), Benger shortly thereafter in 28th ($605.40), and Fischer in 20th ($658.82). Not exiting early, or at all for that matter, was "agahlol" who took it down for nearly $42,000.

PokerStars SCOOP 14-H: $670 No-Limit Hold'em Ante Up Two-Day ($75K Guaranteed)

Looking to follow up his big win at the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final in the SCOOP, Igor "lechuckpoker" Kurganov leads the remaining 11 players in the Ante Up High buy-in. Notable finishes in this one include Luke "lb6121" Schwartz (12th - $3,738.60), George Danzer (14th - $3,115.50), Adrian "Adrian900123" Marin (16th - $2,492.40), and Jon "PearlJammer" Turner (17th - $2,492.40).

Here is who is left going into Day 2 on Saturday:

PokerStars SCOOP 14-M: $75 No-Limit Hold'em Ante Up Two-Day ($50K Guaranteed)

Event #14-M drew 1,997 entrants and following Day 1 action, only 22 players remain. Among those putting up deep showings failing short of Day 2 were Mayu "marroca5" Roca (43rd - $404.39), Adam "Roothlus" Levy (53rd - $366.94), Matt "ADZ124" Marafioti (62nd - $336.99), and Mark "eppy12588" Epstein (67th - $307.03).

Among those still in the hunt is Randal "RandALLin" Flowers, 11th in chips with 372,270. Here are top five chip counts entering Day 2:

A starting field of 13,223 in Event #14-L is left with 49 players after Day 1. Here are the top five counts entering Day 2:

PokerStars SCOOP 15-H: $2,000 Limit Omaha H/L ($50K Guaranteed)

An elite field of 105 took part in the $2,000 Limit Omaha H/L affair. Only 12 players were paid and among those that came close were Alex "joiso" Kostritsyn (13th), Jason Mercier (15th), and Viktor "Isildur1" Blom (21st).

Here is how the final table stacked up:

Eliminated from the final table in ninth place was Vincent "Vingtcent" Van Der Fluit. Short on chips, Van Der Fluit committed his stack following a 10♥7♣6♠ flop with J♦8♦3♠2♠. He faced off with "rdmr" who tabled A♣K♣10♠5♥. The 3♣ hit the turn, hurting Van Der Fluit's chances of winning with a low and when the 7♠ landed on the river, "rdmr" scooped the entire pot.

Things can go south quickly in limit and that was the case for start-of-final-table chip leader Andrey "Kroko-dill" Zaichenko. The last of his chips got into the pot with A♥Q♣6♥2♠ against two other players. He wasn't able to best "Lyndon360's" K♥K♣4♦4♥ as the board came down K♦9♠2♦K♠7♦.

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier fell next in quite brutal fashion as both he and "Borys313" had excellent hands on the Q♥J♦7♠2♦ board. A series of bets and raises on the turn revealed A♥K♦J♠7♦ for "Borys313" — two pair with a flush draw. Grospellier tabled A♦Q♦7♥3♦ for a better two pair, better flush draw, and a low draw as well. However, "Borys313" made a full house as the J♥ spiked on the river, ending Grospellier's run.

The next to go was "rdmr" after a battle with Paul "paulgees81" Volpe. Much of "rdmr's" stack was in preflop and the rest after the 9♦4♠4♥ flop with A♥A♣J♠6♠. Volpe loved that flop with A♠K♠7♥4♣ and his trips held through the J♣ turn and 10♦ river. However, Volpe went on a dry spell in the aftermath of that hand and busted next. Betting and representing the entire way down on a 10♠6♠5♣J♥4♠ board, his K♥K♠5♦3♣ fell to "Lyndon360's" A♦3♥2♥2♦ when "Lyndon360" made the nut low and a straight on the river.

Kristian "CharismA3" Martin departed in fourth place, surviving as the short stack for a little before getting chopped up. The board read J♥6♠3♣8♥10♦ and Anders "Donald" Berg took the high with A♠J♠J♣6♣ for top set, while "Borys313" took the low with A♣A♥4♠2♥. Berg, though, fell in third place. On his final hand, he got it in with A♣J♥4♥4♣. The 9♥9♠2♦8♦Q♣ board offered no help to Berg and he was beat by the A♠Q♦9♣5♥ of "Borys313."

"Lyndon360" held a slight lead to begin heads-up play, but that didn't stop "Borys313" from putting up a fight and eventually taking it down. On the final hand, "Lyndon360" had little choice but to get it in with J♦6♠5♠2♥ against the Q♣J♥7♥2♦ of "Borys313." The board rolled out Q♠10♥8♦7♣10♦, putting no qualifying low on the table and giving the pot to "Borys313" with queens to secure the victory.

PokerStars SCOOP 15-M: $200 Limit Omaha H/L ($25K Guaranteed)

Notable finishes in the medium Limit Omaha H/L event included Fabrice "fabsoul" Soulier (16th - $920), Alex "joiso" Kostritsyn (23rd - $690), Chris "ImDaNuts" Oliver (26th - $690), Jason "TeamWispy" Helder (36th - $575), Ami "UhhMee" Barer (45th - $517.50), and Chad "ChadBrownPRO" Brown (55th - $402.50).

Taking it down outright was Aussie Tim "TurnRiva" Marsters for $21,735.

PokerStars SCOOP 15-L: $25 Limit Omaha H/L ($25K Guaranteed)

The low buy-in of Event #15 nearly tripled its guarantee and saw a heads-up deal go down before determining a winner. When it was all said and done, "naurits" was the sole survivor for more than $10,500.

PokerStars SCOOP 16-H: $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em 2x Chance Turbo ($700K Guaranteed)

Putting up solid finishes in this high-stakes turbo affair but still winding up a bit short of the final table were Andrew "RunThisTable" Lichtenberger (14th - $14,894), Ben "delaney_kid" Delaney (17th - $12,186), and Paul "paulgees81" Volpe (18th - $12,186. The final table was reached in just more than three hours of play and the average stack was about 24 big blinds. Here is how it looked at the start:

The first to depart was "dirty.brasil" after shoving nine big blinds with 10♠10♥ from early position. "Dajvey" gave him action from middle position with A♥Q♠ and collected the pot as the board came down A♠K♥5♠Q♣K♣. "Ky3He4uKKK" fell shortly thereafter, getting it in for five big blinds with A♠5♥ against the 4♥4♣ of William "Altrum Altus" Reynolds. A K♠9♥3♠10♣4♥ board was all she wrote for "Ky3He4uKKK," out in eighth place.

Pascal "Pass_72" LeFrancois became the seventh-place finisher, running his five-big-blind stack with K♣9♥ from the hijack into the Q♦Q♥ of "Dimadu" on the button. An A♣J♥6♣6♦4♣ board missed LeFrancois. "Dajvey" bid adieu a few hands later in a battle of the blinds. A 15-big-blind shove with K♠4♣ from the small blind was met with a call from "B00mslang" in the big blind with A♣10♣. A 10♥8♥5♠5♦10♠ board only helped "B00mslang" improve to end "Dajvey's" run.

"WushuTM," simultaneously at the Event #13-H final table with three remaining, fell from both events in a two-minute span. Here, "B00mslang" jammed from the small blind with the bigger stack and "WushuTM" called all in for roughly seven big blinds holding A♣10♥. "B00mslang" tabled an inferior K♣9♠, but the board delivered help in the form of K♣7♦6♣9♦J♥ to eliminate "WushuTM" in fifth place. "Dimadu" felt "B00mslang's" wrath just a few hands later, unable to win a race with A♣8♠ against the 6♣6♠ of the latter.

William "Altrum Altus" Reynolds fell in third place, also at the hands of "B00mslang." From the small blind, "B00mslang" shoved with a covering stack and Reynolds called all in for about 14 big blinds with A♣4♠. "B00mslang" had him dominated with A♠9♣ and put an end to his tournament when the board ran down 9♠8♠5♦8♥A♥.

Holding about 3:1 chip lead, "B00mslang" agreed to look at numbers for a deal with Frederik "Fred_Brink" Jensen. They discussed for a few minutes, but ultimately could not come to terms. When the cards were back in the air, it took four hands for "B00mslang" to close it out. On the button, "B00mslang" opened with about a min-raise. Jensen shoved from the big blind for about 15 big blinds with A♠2♥ and was met with a call from "B00mslang" holding A♥6♠. The chances for a chop diminished quickly as the flop came down A♣8♥6♣ giving "B00mslang" aces up. The 3♠ turn and 5♠ river ended it, notching the win for "B00mslang."

PokerStars SCOOP 16-M: $200 No-Limit Hold'em 2x Chance Turbo ($450K Guaranteed)

In just less than five hours of play, "gast117" was the sole survivor of a 2,710 player field and earned $108,000. A four-handed deal had taken place which resulted in Nick "gbmantis" Niergarth finishing runner-up and Michael "WatchOutFish" Benvenuti taking third. Other to make deep runs were Bjorn "Bjoerni89" Schneider (12th - $5,064.80), Adam "Roothlus" Levy (16th - $2,883.03), Brandon "oncommand" Meyers (17th - $2,883.04), Michael "Skämmes" Tureniec (26th - $2,415.52), Ariel "ArielBahia" Celestino (27th - $2,415.52), and Sorel "zangbezan24" Mizzi (29th - $2,025.92).

PokerStars SCOOP 16-L: $25 No-Limit Hold'em 2x Chance Turbo ($250K Guaranteed)

A bit longer than five hours was all it took for 12,572 players to be whittled down to one. "PetjeXL" took top honors in this one, not only earning about $63,000, but topping a final table that included Jose "nachobarbero" Barbero and Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb.

Notables who went deep include Martin Staszko (54th - $661.23), Griffin "Flush_Entity" Benger (63rd - $592.83), and Ankush "pistons87" Mandavia (70th - $547.23).
