Venetian Cancels PokerNews Live Reporting Services for Recent MSPT Event 0001

Earlier this week, the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) took to the Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada for an event running June 2-4. On the day preceding the event, PokerNews received word from the Venetian that it would not be utilizing the company's live reporting services for the event.

"With each MSPT event, PokerNews Live Reporting comes as an option for the venue. Venetian decided not to pick up this option, and PokerNews was given no specific reason. We are aware of Sheldon Adelson's stance against online poker, and would like to remind everyone that his stance is a hindrance to the growth of the game we all love," commented PokerNews Editor-in-Chief Donnie Peters. "PokerNews remains committed to the MSPT as the tour continues to flourish, and we look forward to providing live coverage. With 12 events remaining on the 2014 MSPT schedule, we encourage all poker players to attend one of the upcoming MSPT stops."

Kathy Raymond, Executive Director of Poker Operations at The Venetian, issued to following statement to PokerNews on Thursday: "Given our Chairman's clear position on the matter of online gaming, the Venetian/Palazzo made a business decision to not allow an online blog during the Mid States Poker Tour event."

The recently completed event at the Venetian attracted 854 entries and allowed two players to walk away with six-figure paydays. Drake Bronk earned the top prize of $163,870 after defeating Maxsim Rosenfeld ($100,840) heads up for the win.

The 2014 MSPT season has set several records across its events, and the next stop will be taking place in Tama, Iowa at Meskwaki Casino beginning on July 19. The $1,110 Main Event will begin on July 25 and boast a $300,000 guarantee.
