Season 6 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) kicked off last week at BestBet Jacksonville, marking the first time the tour has held a stop in Florida. A series of preliminary events and qualifiers are leading up to this weekend's $1,100 buy-in $200,0000 guarantee Main Event which kicks off on Friday, Jan. 23 and will conclude Sunday, Jan. 25.
Throughout the stop, BestBet Jacksonville has hosted various promotions to qualify players for the $1,100 Main Event, which requires players to be 18 to play. For instance, they've done a "High Hand of the Day" where the player with the best hand wins seats into qualifiers and even the Main Event itself. "It's been a great week of poker here in sunny Florida. BestBet Jacksonville is a great new addition to the MSPT schedule, and it's proved to be an excellent venue to kick off Season 6," said MSPT owner and operator Bryan Mileski. "With so many qualifiers and promotions, this weekend's $1,100 Main Event is shaping up to smash the guarantee."
What's more, as a result of a renewed partnership, PokerNews will be on hand in Jacksonville to live report the Main Event, as well as all future MSPT tournaments throughout Season 6.
"PokerNews is very happy to continue our partnership with the Mid-States Poker Tour for 2015," said PokerNews Editor in Chief Donnie Peters. "We’re excited for another year of full live coverage of the tour, which offers top-notch, affordable poker events to the poker-playing community, but with a big buy-in feel. It’s amazing to see MSPT participation grow year on year, and we hope to help facilitate much more of that growth in 2015."
Among those to win preliminary title at the MSPT BestBet Jacksonville were Waylon Kofi (Event #1 $250 No-Limit Hold'em), Johnny Ear (Event #2 $200 All-in or Fold), Brian Margettes (Event #3 $240 Limit Omaha Hi-Low), and Greg Shields (Event #4 $240 No-Limit Hold'em).
