Jake Schindler Defeats Shaun Deeb to Win SHRPO High Roller for $800K
On Tuesday, the 2018 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open (SHRPO) culminated with their famed“Big 4,” which was four final tables simultaneously played out and broadcast. One of them was the $25,500 High Roller, a tournament that attracted 123 entries and created a $3,136,500 prize pool.
After two full days of play, Jake Schindler came out on top to capture an $800,758 top prize. He did so by beating one of the world’s hottest players, Shaun Deeb, heads up.
“It’s a combination of practice and luck,” Schindler said after the win. “I got good cards, made mostly right decisions and it worked out.”
It was just the latest score for Schindler at the Hard Rock. In August 2017, he finished runner-up to Nick Schulman in the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open $50K Super High Roller for $260,000, and in 2014 he won the $100K Super High Roller version or $570,375. He also won the 2013 SHRPO $2,200 NLH event for $59,500.
The win moved Schindler up to $20,881,255 in lifetime earnings, which put him 18th on Hendon Mob's all-time money list.

Paul Hofer was the first to depart the final table after shoving the small blind with king-nine only to run it into the ace-queen of Mark Fisher in the big. Not long after, Ory Hen, a former Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year who won his way in via a $300 step satellite, followed him out the door after getting his pocket tens cracked by Omar Zazay’s nines.
Barry Hutter was felled after three-betting all in with ace-queen and running smack dab into Tom Marchese’s pocket aces. Fisher then bowed out in fifth place after getting his short stack in with queen-nine and failing to get there against Deeb’s ace-ten suited.
Zazay, who won the 2015 SHRPO Championship, took his leave in fourth place when his deuces failed to overcome Schindler’s kings, and then Marchese hit the rail after his queen-ten did not improve against Deeb’s ace-ten.
The heads-up match between Schindler and Deeb was a back-and-forth affair with each holding the chip lead on several occasions. In the final hand of the tournament, Deeb got his chips in with pocket tens and was racing against Schindler’s king-queen. A queen on the flop spelled he end for Deeb, who had to settle for second place and $534,989 in prize money.
While he didn’t win, it was the continuation of a great year for Deeb, who currently leads the 2018 World Series of Poker Player of the Year race. Thus far in 2018 he has won $3,085,451 playing tournament poker, which included his third WSOP gold bracelet for $814,179.
Others to cash the tournament were Chris Hunichen (10th - $80,073), Nipun Java (12th - $69,926), Darren Elias (15th - $59,778), and Ryan Riess (16th - $59,778).
