Sunday Briefing: Luke Schwartz Wins Sunday 500, Anatoly Filatov Wins Sunday Gladiator

Luke Schwartz bagged himself a bracelet at the World Series of Poker during the summer and now he has another online title after he topped a star-studded field in the PokerStars Sunday 500.

$530 Sunday 500 at PokerStars

A field of 160 players turned out for this weekend’s $530 Sunday 500 at PokerStars to ensure the $60,000 was first hit then surpassed by $20,000. The $80,000 prize pool was shared among the top 20 finishers and it was Luke "lb6121" Schwartz who got his hands on the largest of the prizes.

Any of the nine players who reached the final table would have made a worthy champion, but they fell by the wayside one by one. Lithuania’s “Gedis92” was the first finalist to be eliminated, their ninth-place banking them $1,991.

The Lithuanian was followed to the rail by Swedish superstar Johannes “Greenstone25” Korsar then by a pair of German players in “GS-85-GS” and “jspreh”, the latter winning $4,363.

Austria’s “herr_01” busted in fifth-place before “ShipitFTW911” of Sweden crashed out in fourth-place. Simon “IgorKarkarof” Pederson was the third-place finish and collected $9,560, which left Schwartz and“Manni1822” of Austria to battle heads-up for the title.

It was Schwartz who emerged victoriously and got his hands on $16,128. Manni1822 had to console themselves with a $12,417 runner-up prize.

$215 Sunday Million at PokerStars

The Sunday Million reverted back to a standard no-limit hold’em tournament on Sep. 1 after two weeks of being a PKO event. It still attracted a massive field of 11,241 who created a $1,124,100 prize pool shared among the top 2,042 finishers.

It is common for the Sunday Million to end in a chop such are the massive prizes awarded, but this week saw no deal meaning Finland’s “Dumari84” turned their $109 into a cool $114,334. Dumari84 defeated “BluffedLife” heads-up for the title, resigning the runner-up to a still huge $82,965.

All but one of those players who reached the final table walked away with a five-figure prize. “Ycsousa” was the ninth-place finisher and won $8,794. They were joined in the sidelines by “KKing James” and Canada’s “pnsmckr” before “mate tdd” and “Skipper22” both ran out of steam and headed for the showers.

“Dodi papa” of Hungary crashed out in fourth-place for $43,692. The penultimate elimination was that of Austria’s “KennyyPowers” who third-place finish netted them $60,208.

The tournament belonged to Dumari84 and their six-figure prize was the largest awarded in online poker circles on Sep.1.

Sunday High Roller Gladiator at partypoker

Two members of the Team partypoker stable reached the final table of this weekend’s $2,100 Sunday High Roller Gladiator event, with one of them walking away victorious.

A compact field of 55 entries created a $112,700 that was split half between the top seven finishers and the remaining 50 percent on the heads of each of the players.

Roberto “R_Romanello” Romanello was the first player to win some money from the main prize pool, namely $2,951 for his seventh-place finish; Romanello didn’t collect any bounties along the way.

“Dandelion32892” was the next player to fall, they collected a combined $5,410. Fifth-place and $4,350 went to “gams123456” before “Jizoint” crashed and burned in fourth-place for a total prize worth $10,449.

The penultimate elimination was that of “Benetnasch” whose third-place exit was worth $14,572. This set up a heads-up clash between “wikidipidi” and Anatoly “NL_Profit” Filatov and it was the latter, sponsored by partypoker, who clinched the title and $39,547, resigning the runner-up to $19,192.

Sunday Gladiator at partypoker

A field of 695 competed in the $320 buy-in Sunday Gladiator and it was “Umeinandpickit” who emerged victoriously, banked a combined prize weighing in at $35,070. The champion defeated “NicoMaserati57” in a one-on-one battle to leave the second-place finisher to collect $21,858.

Earlier at the final table, “Rock OShea” fell in eighth-place to turn their $320 into $3,308. They were joined in the role of spectator by “L.Trundle” ($3,039), “BlindFold” ($4,858) and “storyofmylife”, the latter busting in fifth-place for $5,733.

“EasyMoney” collected $9,8202 after finishing in fourth-place before “Elpepo” busted in third for $12,415 in total.

$25,000 Rake or Break Whale at 888poker

Over at 888poker, the Sunday Whale received the Rake of Break treatment. 888poker set a prize pool target of $25,000. If it was reached, the tournament played out as normal. If not, everyone received the tournament fee of $30 back.

It didn’t reach the target as 49 players created a $24,500 prize pool. Only the top five finishers received prize money, “germanyjurgen” collecting $1,960 fir their fifth-place exit. Malta’s “HateH4teHate” scooped the $2,450 fourth-place prize before being joined on the rail by Ian “Simpioni” Simpson wh netted $3,675.

Heads-up saw “Hustlejg” of the United Kingdom and “MeGr1k” from Russia lock horns in a battle for the lion’s share of the prize pool. It was the Russian who won all the chip in play and the $9,800 top prize, leaving the runner-up to bank $6,615.

$100,000 Mega Deep PKO at 888poker

For the second week running, the $100,000 Mega Deep was turned into a PKO event and it proved popular with 501 players building a guarantee-busting $100,200 prize pool.

Canada’s “LeetRunGoot” was the first player to fall at the final table, walking away with a total haul weighing in at $1,693. Eighth-placed “RB27.” won $2,117 which was more than the $1,790 collected by “pro_Kiev888” who busted one place later, highlighting how important bounties are in PKO events.

Ukraine’s “Mishantio” turned their $215 into $3,737 before Diego “Diegoavc” Ventura Chunga ran out of steam to bust in fifth-place for $3,977. “IMAsoLucky” of Russia fell in fourth for $5,469 and was joined by another Russian in the shape of “GringoSSA” who scooped $5,360.

“Jksaha21” then fought with Jesse “shakentoucan” Johnston for the title and it was Johnston who emerged from the fight unscathed and with $18,770 reasons to be happy. Second-place was worth $9,293, a great return on $215.

Natural8 ran scheduled maintenance for a software upgrade which removed all completed tournaments from the lobby, meaning we cannot bring you the biggest results this week. Normal service will resume in the next edition of the Sunday Briefing.
