The tournament attracted 290 unique players, who purchased 29 rebuys between them. This bumper crowd resulted in a €334,950 prize pool, far in excess of the advertised €250,000 guarantee.

Only 66 of the 319 starters managed to progress to the tournament’s Day 2. Twenty-two of those Day 2 players went home empty-handed, including “KarlHeinz2”, the unfortunate soul who burst the money bubble.

A min-cash weighed in at €2,264 and the prize money steadily increased as the final table neared. Unibet Poker ambassador Dara “Dokey” O’Kearney put together yet another deep run, but came unstuck in 20th place, a finish worth €3,128.

All but two of the players at the final table padded their Unibet Poker bankrolls with five-figure prizes. “bio58” fell in ninth-place for €5,456 while “Treason” lost their chips and finished eighth for €7,586.

Seventh place and €10,648 went to “gyr3ss” with “Saturghey” scooping the €14,506 sixth-place prize. The prizes kept on growing, and “Humblbumbee” and “BakingBre4d” reeled in prizes worth €19,631 and €26,286 respectively.

Heads-up was set when “AudreyBitoni” fell by the wayside in third for a €35,936 score. “deucesWild” locked horns with “limingwei” who nobody knew at the time was the four-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, Nitsche.

Nitsche got the job done and his hands on the €68,527 top prize, leaving deucesWild to console themselves with a still respectable €48,916 runner-up prize.

Nitsche Hopes Unibet Open Runs Again

The Unibet Open blog revealed Nitsche as the champion. It is here that Nitsche spoke highly of the event and stated he is hopeful of the tournament running again before live poker returns to our schedules.

“I really enjoyed the tournament. It’s really nice to be able to play a big tournament these days since I kind of miss competing in the big live stuff. So thanks to Unibet for putting this on, and I hope this is an event that we’ll see again in the future before we get back to playing live poker.”

“I also want to give a shoutout to my friends Dara O’Kearney and David Lappin who I crossed paths with in the tournament. Unluckily for them, they didn’t know who I was!”

Unibet Online Series a Huge Success

Nitsche will likely get his wish because the latest Unibet Online Series was a roaring success. Almost 26,000 players competed across the 145 events, which had combined prize pools of €1,174,485.
