The Golden Nugget Grand Poker Series kicked off on May 31 and is slated to run through July 3. The festival features 81 events offering over $3 million in guaranteed prize money, which includes the highly-anticipated $1,100 buy-in, $1 million guaranteed PokerNews Cup from June 24-28.
The Golden Nugget Grand Poker Series will feature poker variants including Pot-Limit Omaha, Big O, Mixed Triple Draw Lowball, Limit 2-7 Lowball, H.O.R.S.E. and Triple Stud. Additionally, Mystery bounty tournaments are as popular as ever, and this year's Golden Nugget Grand Poker Series will provide players their fix with Event #39: $300 Mystery Bounty NLHE $250K Guarantee, which will run from June 17-20 with nine starting flights.
Through the first 24 events of the series, a combined 3,786 entrants have competed and $656,930 in prize money awarded. Just one player – Peiheng Chen – has captured two titles, both daily no-limit hold’em wins. First, he topped a 60-entry field to win Event #6: $150 Daily NLH for $2,384 and then bested a 212-entry field to claim a second title in Event #18: $200 Daily NLH for $3,606.

WSOP Bracelet Winner James Van Alstyne Wins 2022 Grand Poker Series Event
Earlier in the 2022 Grand Poker Series, Event #5: $250 H.O.R.S.E. attracted 126 players, which offered up a $24,570 prize pool to the top 16 finishers.
Among those to cash the tournament but fall short of the final table were Leo Weaver (16th place - $478), Gregory Bash (15th place - $478), Joe Harbeh (14th place - $507), Kathy Chang (13th place - $507), Angelo Fuscone (12th place - $559), Bonnie Porri (11th place - $559), and Duke Viveros (10th place - $640).
At the final table, James Van Alstyne once again flexed his H.O.R.S.E. muscles by finishing as the champ to claim a $6,395 top prize. We said "once again" as some poker fans might recall that Van Alstyne topped a 770-entry field in the 2009 WSOP Event #31: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. for $247,033 and a coveted gold bracelet.

Brandon Mulcrone Victorious in Event #10: $200 NLH $250K GTD
One of the biggest tournaments in the early goings of the 2022 Grand Poker Series was Event #10: $200 NLH $250K GTD, a tournament that attracted 1,482 entrants over five starting flights.
The top 122 finishers made the money on Day 2 and included Allison De Souza (112th - $400), Mariano Dirittorio (79th - $605), Daryl Oppelt (63rd - $715), David Atwood (31st - $1,030), Zachary Grandstaff (19th - $1,710), Anthony Regis (13th - $2,495), and final table bubble Shawn Carr (10th - $3,180).
Katie Kopp, fresh off winning the first gold bracelet of the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP), was at the final table but saw her run come to an end in third place for $17,885. That left Logan Moon of Boston, Massachusetts to do battle with Brandon Mulcrone of Las Vegas in heads-up play. The latter ultimately came out on top to claim the title and a $38,600 first-place prize.

The series will culminate with the $600 No-Limit Hold'em Championship, which kicks off on June 30 and will wrap up on July 3. The event will have three starting flights for players to choose from as they look to become the next champion.
All tournaments will be one-day events except for Events #26, 30, 39, 55 and 73.
