Ivey Denied Sixth Triton Poker Title as Ding Wins $50k PLO

Phil Ivey

For now, Phil Ivey's stuck with five. A handful of Triton Poker titles — good enough for second all-time, tied with Danny Tang.

But he could have been one step closer to chasing down runaway leader Jason Koon's 10 Triton titles if things had gone his way in Event #15: $50k Pot Limit Omaha in Jeju.

A runner-up finish saw the Poker Hall of Famer just fall short against Biao Ding, but Ivey still adds a fourth Triton cash of the stop — his tenth since the start of 2023.

Meanwhile it's a second Triton title for Ding, after winning the $30,000 NLHE Mystery Bounty in Northern Cyprus last year, and his seventh cash at the Triton Jeju stop for Ding, coming less than a week after his second-place finish in Event #9: $150K NLH 8-Handed for $2,870,000.

"The more I play the better I get!" said Ding shortly after his victory. "Luck plays a role in heads-up, even against Phil Ivey. He's a great player but I just hit the cards better than him this time.

"I love a heads-up victory against Ivey!"

Final Table Recap

A total of 14 places were paid, with another star-studded final table in Jeju confirmed after recent PLO Bounty Quattro champion Nacho Barbero was eliminated in eighth place.

Ding led from Ole Schemion, but Ivey came back with the elimination of Patrik Antonius while Ding padded his stack with the elimination of Schemion in sixth place to keep pace with the American.

Stephen Chidwick was eliminated by Ding in fifth place, but again back came Ivey who regained the chip lead with the elimination of Paul Phua.

Three-handed play was an entertaining affair with Jared Bleznick up to his usual antics, in his favourite game: Pot Limit Omaha. However, he eventually lost out to Ivey who entered heads-up with a strong chip lead.

But in Pot Limit Omaha, momentum can swing the opposite way in an instant. The river helped Ding in the most opportune moments, as he emerged victorious for his first Triton Poker title.

Ivey will have to wait for number six, but he immediately jumped into Event $16: $25k Short Deck. Will he tie the record in this event?

Phil Ivey Triton Poker Titles

Over the course of his Triton Poker career, Ivey has taken down five titles. He's tied with Danny Tang at that number, with only Jason Koon having won more (6).

His most recent victories came in London, winning two events including his second seven-figure Triton score in the $60,000 NLH Turbo.
