"MindaugasKR" Wins 888poker XL Spring Series Main Event; Barone Completes Series Hat Trick

The 888poker XL Spring Series concluded on May 27 with the crowning of the $500,000 guaranteed Mystery Bounty Main Event champion. That champion is none other than Lithuanian grinder "MindaugasKR," who bested 2,193 opponents and won $39,591.

The Lithuanian returned for the final day's action with 1,524,522 chips, the equivalent of 20 big blinds, enough for fourth-place on the overnight leaderboard. Estonia's "WakeUpBuddy" led the way with a colossal 10,510,120 stack, with Ukraine's "Bandurist" bringing up the rear with a meagre three big blinds.

"Bandurist" was not the final table's first casualty despite sitting down with a micro stack. That dubious honor went to "BigFish20." Usually, being the first to bust from a final table would have been disappointing, but not for "BigFish20" because they'd pulled the $50,000 jackpot bounty on Day 2. Had "BigFish20" gone all the way and become this tournament's champion, they would have walked away with more than $90,000. They still took home $57,184 for their efforts, the largest payout of the Main Event.

Seventh place, unsurprisingly, went to "Bandurist." They were the last player not to turn their $250 investment into a five-figure haul.

Guernsey's "Mayanking" fell in sixth for $10,279, with "daltonhb" banking $11,296 for their fifth-place finish. Fourth-place and $17,839 went to "alina01957" before "shoveftw" of Sweden dusted off their stack and received a $25,028 prize.

Heads-up pitted "MindaugasKR" against the start-of-the-day chip leader "WakeUpBuddy." The latter locked in $40,596 thanks partly to accumulating more than $14,000 in mystery bounty payments. They wouldn't collect any more because they fell at the final hurdle, leaving "MindaugasKR" to receive a $39,591 payout and the title of XL Spring Series Mystery Bounty Main Event champion.

While the Mystery Bounty Main Event was edging towards a thrilling finale, 888poker Stream Team's Aaron "abarone68" Barone was helping himself to a third victory of the series. Having won the $109 DeepStack High for $2,921, Barone came out on top in the $109 Daily Gems Big Shot, adding another $2,370 to his bankroll.

Then, last night, Barone won the 54th and final numbered event, the $109 Daily Gems Big Shot. This latest win saw Barone bank $2,583.
