At the start of the latest 888poker XL Spring Series, 888poker Stream team member Aaron "abarone68" Barone tweeted that he was gunning for a title after two runner-up finishes during the XL Winter Series. It may have taken until the 27th numbered event, but Barone captured a title and a $2,921 top prize.
Baone was one of 145 entrants in XL Spring #27—Daily Gems—DeepStack High, a $109 buy-in event with a $10,000 guarantee. Those entrants created a $14,500 prize pool, and Barone received the lion's share.

Barone's first bite of the cherry didn't go to plan, with him crashing out in 103rd place. He re-entered, received another 30,000 chips, and turned those into an XL Spring title.
Malta's "POTITOOOOOOO" was looking for their second victory of the series, but they could only muster an eighth-place finish. "FlopmasterDK" of Denmark, "Biroiro04", and "amormori" joined the Maltese star on the sidelines, leaving only four players in the hunt for the title.
Each of those surviving players locked in more than $1,200 for their efforts, but everyone knows tournament grinders play for the glory of winning.
Time Is Running Out to Enter the 888poker XL Spring Series Main Event
Brazilian "joaozinho09" ran out of steam in fourth, a finish good for $1,271, before "cringed" busted in third for $1,682.
Barone faced Brazil's "dududantas95" for the win and the lion's share of the prize pool. Having finished second twice during the XL Winter Series, Barone was determined to finish one place deeper. He did precisely that, sending his final opponent to the rail and becoming an XL Spring Series champion. Barone banked $2,921, leaving the runner-up to collect $2,189.
Perhaps we shall now see Barone battling it out in the $500,000 guaranteed Main Event?
