888poker $100K Mystery Bounty

The latest edition of the $100,000 Mystery Bounty Main Event at 888poker saw 996 players buy in for $109, leaving the smallest of overlays on the six-figure guarantee. Ukrainian "InTheMani" was the grinder who came out on top and took home the lion's share of the prize pool, namely $11,404.

The champion's haul was the largest of the tournament, which is not always the case in this event due to the fact that there's a $10,000 mystery bounty in play. That princely sum went to 40th-place finisher "Julianorbr" of Brazil, who scooped a $10,202 prize as they crashed out.

Day 1, which occurred on August 3, saw the 996-strong crowd whittled to the eight-handed final table. The United Kingdom's "c0rbl1meyguv" sat down at the final table with 97 big blinds and the chip lead, but none of the other finalists were particularly short-stacked. "Dimidroll," also of the UK, was the shortest stack at the restart, and their stack contained 17 big blinds.

"Dimidroll" doubled up early into the final table's action, their pocket eights winning a coinflip against the ace-queen of "diego7791." That hand pushed the victor's stack to 1.2 million chips, giving them some much-needed breathing room.

Almost immediately after "Dimidroll" doubled up, "DontCallAA" of Denmark bowed out after a clash with "InTheMani" did not go to plan. "Lucky_pusia" and "diego7791" joined the Dane on the sidelines, leaving the final table with only five players in the hunt for the title.

Those five became four after a dramatic hand eliminated 888poker regular "kiskutya23" in fifth. They were involved in a battle of the blinds with "InTheMani." "kiskutya23"'s ace-queen flopped top pair and remained best on the turn, which is where "InTheMani" set them all-in. "kiskutya23" called with their top pair, only to lose to a king on the river that completed a straight for "InTheMani."

The players received some more elbow room when "c0rbl1meyguv" open-shoved for seven big blinds from the small blind while holding queen-ten. "AnglerFishy" called with king-nine, turned a nine, and the at-risk player was left with no chips.

Heads-up was reached when "AnglerFishy" busted in third. They say you need to win your coinflips if you're to win poker tournaments, but the Irish player must not have received that memo. "AnglerFishy"'s chips went into the middle while holding pocket sevens, and "Dimidroll" looked them up with ace-ten. Two aces on the flop left the all-in player drawing thin, and they didn't get there on the turn nor on the river.

"InTheMani" had 87.3 big blinds to the 37.2 big blinds of "Dimidroll" going into heads-up. Both players had displayed their willingness to make a deal throughout the final table, but they couldn't agree on numbers once they reached heads-up.

The final hand happened around 20 minutes into the one-on-one battle. It saw a short-stacked "Dimidroll" all-in with jack-eight against the ace-seven of "InTheMani." The at-risk player spiked an eight on the all-spade flop, but "InTheMani" took the lead with an ace on the turn. A brick on the river handed the title to "InTheMani."

Although they finished in second place, "Dimidroll" must be delighted with how this event went. Not only were they the shortest stack at the start of Day 2, but their previous largest score at 888poker was for only $16 and change. This result earned them $7,430, proving anyone can win big online at 888poker.
