888poker ran its Rakeless Sunday promotion this week, scrapping the rake on several of its most popular tournaments, including the $109 buy-in Mystery Bounty Main Event. The online poker giant also bolstered this tournament's guarantee from $100,000 to $110,000 despite it frequently overlaying.

The boosted guarantee was bested after 1,099 players bought in and created a $119,791 prize pool, which included a $11,000 jackpot bounty. "phho86" claimed that massive bounty on Day 1 before navigating to the eight-handed final table, where a top prize worth $9,531 waited for the eventual champion.

Lithuania's "goldskill" amassed a huge stack on the first day, turning their 15,000 starting stack into a colossal 7,228,386 chips, or 181 big blinds. It was the Lithuanian's tournament to lose because they had more than 2.5 times as many chips as any other finalists. However, anyone who has played poker knows all too well that tournaments rarely progress as you would expect.

The first elimination occurred almost immediately after the final table's action commenced. Despite sitting down with less than five big blinds, "M0M0s" was not the final table's first casualty. That dubious honour went to "AzaAzaAza", who decided to three-bet all-in from the small blind for 24 big blinds with pocket nines after "goldskill" had opened from early position. Unfortunately for the all-in player, the initial raiser had a pair of aces in the hole, which turned a set to leave them drawing dead.

A few minutes later, "M0M0s" doubled up through the chip leader, which ultimately sparked an impressive comeback that saw them ladder up the payouts.

The frantic pace continued with the elimination of "phho86" in seventh. Thanks to pulling the $11,000 jackpot bounty before final table proceedings began, they took home a total prize worth $12,980.

Brazilian "aalexandress" and British player "PokerUtopia" bowed out in sixth and fifth, respectively, before "DAEMON_Tools"' pocket nines lost a coinflip against the king-queen suited of "goldskill" to leave only three players in the hunt for the title, including the start-of-day short stack "M0M0s."

"M0M0s" had done incredibly well to reach the final three from their perilous starting position, but they had their work cut out from here. They had 4.4 big blinds at the start of three-handed play compared to the 64 big blinds belonging to "Streusalz" and the 96.4 big blinds of "goldskill."

Unsurprisingly, "M0M0s" was the third-place finisher. They got their tiny stack into the middle with ace-six but lost to the eight-three suited of "goldskill."

Everything seemed to be going "goldskill"'s way, and the title heading to Lithuania looked all but guaranteed. Yet it was "Streusalz" who was the last player standing and recipient of an $11,273 payout. "Streusalz" drew level almost immediately before forging a lead for themselves. They held a five-to-one chip lead by the time the final hand occurred.

"Streusalz" min-raised with king-jack, "goldskill" called with the dominated king-six, and it was off to a ten-high flop. "goldskill" check-raised a continuation bet, but it wasn't large enough to shake off "Streusalz." A second deuce on the turn put three spades out there, and "goldskill" held the king of spades. "goldskill" led small and was called. The king of diamonds on the river gave both players top pair. "goldskill" moved all-in and was snap-called.

The runner-up took home $9,522, leaving "Streusalz" to collect $11,273 and the title of Rakeless Sunday Mystery Bounty Main Event champion.
