Hellmuth's Home Game Episode 8

Every Monday night, Hellmuth’s Home Game presented by Poker Night in America (PNIA) and sponsored by BetRivers has aired on CBS Sports.

The nationally-televised show, which was filmed at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada and airs weekly at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT until the end of 2025 (Note: the Sept. 18 episode will air at 9 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT), is unique in that there is no commentary. Instead, the show is carried by table talk from Phil Hellmuth alongside a cast of fellow pros and friends in an intimate, relaxed cash game setting.

PokerNews watched the latest episode – which was the seventh of the season – and compiled a recap of some of the biggest hands and interesting storylines.

Here’s how things stacked up at the start of the episode:

PlayerStackProfit
Phil Hellmuth$20,575+$10,575
Randy “3Coin” Sadler$38,575+$8,600
Dan “Jungleman” Cates$25,350+$350
Nevada$10,000Even
Xuan Liu$32,500-$3,500
Alex$21,375-$8,575
Phillip Hellmuth III$6,225-$8,775

The game was played with $25/$50 blinds with a $50 big blind ante. Here’s a look at some of the biggest hands from the episode.

“I’m Gonna Put My Phone Down”

In the second hand of the episode, Daniel “Jungleman” Cates was more focused on his phone, saying that he was trying to book a flight.

That is when Alex raised to $200 with the 107 in the hijack and Cates three-bet to $800 next to act after looking down at the 99. 3Coin just called from the big blind with the 88, Alex called, and it was three-way action to a flop of Q810.

3Coin led out for $300, Alex called, and Cates announced he was going to raise to $3,000. 3Coin wasted little time in popping it to $9,000, Alex quickly folded, and Cates said, “I’m gonna put my phone down.”

The raise had gotten his attention, and he put his head in his hands while talking aloud about 3Coin’s potential holdings.

“What am I doing? I feel like a fish right now,” Cates said before folding his hand. 3Coin then showed the goods and offered a fist bump.

Hellmuth Flops the Joint

With a $100 straddle on, Phil Hellmuth limped from the hijack with the AJ and 3Coin raised to $300 with the A10 on the button. Alex then three-bet to $1,200 from the straddle with his K8, both Hellmuth and 3Coin called, and the flop came down 23Q.

Alex continued for $1,400 and Hellmuth, who flopped the nuts, just called. 3Coin came along and the 10 appeared on the turn. Alex shut it down by checking, and Hellmuth paused for a few beats before checking behind. 3Coin turned a pair but checked as well to bring the 3 on the river.

Alex checked, Hellmuth fired out $3,700, and 3Coin said it was the “perfect pro’s bet” before exposing his hand without realizing someone else was in the hand. Upon realizing his mistake, he announced a fold, and Alex did the same to give Hellmuth the pot.

Aces Cracked

Alex raised to $200 with the 54 in the hijack, and Cates three-bet to $800 from the cutoff with the KQ. Nevada then looked down at the AA in the big blind and just called, which priced in Alex to call the additional $600.

The 54Q flop saw two checks to Cates, who checked behind with top pair. The 7 turn put three spades on board, so after Nevada checked his aces for a second time, Alex bet $1,000 with his two pair and only spade. Both his opponents called and the 5 paired the board on the river.

Nevada checked for a third time with pocket rockets, and Alex bet another $1,000 with his rivered full house. Cates responded by raising to $6,000, and Nevada folded his pocket pair.

Alex responded by moving all in for $14,525, and Cates opted to call $8,525 more only to see a pot worth $34,525 pushed to his opponent.

“You Just Got Trapped By Hellmuth”

After action folded to Cate on the button, he raised to $150 with the 53 and Hellmuth called from the small blind with the 97. Xuan then called from the button with her 106, and all three players checked the Q987 flop.

When the 7 hit the turn, Hellmuth bet $400 with his two pair, and Xuan just called with her straight. Cates got out of the way and Hellmuth filled up when the 7 paired the board on the river. He led out for $500, and Xuan raised it to $3,000.

Hellmuth then pushed back to the tune of $8,000.

“You just got trapped by Hellmuth,” Cates quipped.

“You can get away with murder in this spot,” Xuan said to Hellmuth. She thought better of it, though, and released her hand.

“Did you river me?” she asked Hellmuth, who affirmed that he did.

Here’s how things looked at the end of the episode.
