GGMasters

Move aside PokerBaazi. Move aside PokerStars.

There's a new holder for the record of the largest overlay in online poker history. And unsurprisingly, it comes from the largest online poker room: GGPoker.

GGMasters Breaks Overlay Record

When GGPoker first launched the GGMasters six years ago, it cost $150 to enter and featured a $300,000 guarantee. Last year's event featured a $5 million guarantee, but was cancelled on Day 2 after technical issues.

But for its sixth anniversary, GGPoker boosted its guarantee to a staggering $10 million, despite keeping the buy-in at $150.

The event featured seven starting flights: Three on February 1, three on February 8 and one final Last Chance flight on Monday 9.

As reported by PokerFuse, with around two hours left of registration in today's Last Chance flight, the overlay sat at $2.6 million, needing approximately 8,700 entries. By the time registration closed, that figure sat at $1,791,760.

This makes it the largest online poker overlay in history, beating the 2024 PokerBaazi GOAT ($1.4 million) and the 2020 PokerStars Big Blowout ($1.2 million)

It also comes in as the third-biggest overlay in poker history, behind the $2.5 million overlay at the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open and the $2.4 million overlay from the 2023 WPT World Championship.

Top 5 Biggest Overlays in Poker History

DateEventGuaranteeOverlay
2014$5,300 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open$10 million$2.5 million
2023$10,400 WPT World Championship$40 million$2.4 million
2025GGPoker $109 GGMasters$10 million$1.791 million
2024$120 PokerBaazi GOAT$2.975 million$1.4 million
2020PokerStars $109 The Big BLowout$5 million$1.23 million

After the WPT's overlay in 2023, Adam Pliska, President and CEO of the World Poker Tour said that the company "knew the risks" but that the "WPT's long-term plan is playing out."

While this figure certainly won't break the bank at GGPoker, they may think twice about whether their long-term plan still involves lofty $10 million guarantees for a $150 buy-in tournament.

What Could $1.8 Million Get YOU?

If GGPoker’s $1.8 million overlay were sitting in your bank account instead of the tournament prize pool, you’d be looking at a life-altering sum. To put that number into perspective, here is what $1.8 million can actually buy you in 2026.

  • You could book three seats on a Virgin Galactic flight to the edge of space ($600,000 per seat).
  • Coincidentally, $1.8 million is the average sales price for an apartment in Manhattan right now.
  • Feeling charitable? According to the Against Malaria Foundation, at $5 per net, a $1.8 million donation would fund 360,000 nets, protecting over 700,000 people.
  • Financial experts call $1.5 million a "retirement checkpoint." Allowing for a diversified portfolio, you could pay yourself a "salary" of $72,000 a year indefinitely without ever touching the principal.
