NFL Great Richard Seymour Makes World Poker Tour Final Table Playing for $656k

It was a big day on Tuesday for "Big Sey" at the $3,500 buy-in World Poker Tour (WPT) Seminole Hard Rock Poker Championship.
Richard Seymour, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, reached his first WPT final table and is one of six players still chasing the $656,200 first-place prize at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Football Star Becoming a Poker Star
Seymour, a legendary defensive lineman for the NFL's New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders, entered Day 4 fourth in chips out of the 16 remaining players. He would move up the leaderboard quickly, nearly doubling his start-of-day stack early in the session. But he'd finish the session with the shortest stack.
That is the bad news for the Super Bowl champion. The good news is, despite being the shorty, he'll enter Wednesday's final table at 12:30 p.m. PT with 28 big blinds, plenty of chips to make a run, and he's guaranteed at least $138,000.

Michael Amato is right on his heels with 16,200,000 chips, followed by Frank Funaro at 13,925,000. There's a bit of a dropoff after that, with Raj Vohra in fourth place with 10,075,000 chips, Johnny Bromberg at 7,100,000 in fifth place, and Seymour rounding out the final table with 5,600,000 chips.
Seymour, who became a regular in tournament poker after retiring from the NFL in 2012, is chasing his largest career score and his second big tournament win this year. The NFL star won a World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) ring in February in a $2,200 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em High Roller for $106,577.
Regardless of who wins the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship, it will be a first-time WPT champion, and it could be a Pro Football Hall of Famer. Seymour was enshrined in Canton in 2022.
The final table livestream on the WPT's YouTube channel will begin at 12:30 p.m. PT on Friday.
