Former New England Patriots defensive lineman Richard Seymour added another ring to his jewelry case on Monday, but this time it wasn't for winning the Super Bowl.

The NFL Hall of Famer who played his college ball at the University of Georgia took down the $2,200 buy-in World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) High Roller event at Harrah's Cherokee for $106,577. He beat out 234 players to capture the title and his first WSOPC gold ring, in North Carolina.

"Big Sey" wreaked havoc on opposing offensive linemen and quarterbacks for 12 seasons in the NFL before retiring from pro football after the 2012 season. He's now doing the same at the poker table, and it paid off with a Circuit ring and a six-figure payout.

The no-limit hold'em tournament had a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool that was obliterated, as the pot reached $468,000. Thirty-six players were paid, including many Circuit regulars. But none of the pros in the field could outlast a football star.

Big Sey, a first-team All-American his senior year at Georgia in 2000, won thee Super Bowl rings during his eight-year stint in New England. He finished out his NFL career with the Oakland Raiders from 2009-2012. Seymour accumulated 57.5 sacks and 496 tackles across 12 NFL seasons. He was considered a cornerstone of many talented defensive lines in New England, and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2022.

Seymour is one of numerous NFL stars who have become avid poker players, joining the likes of fellow defensive lineman Calais Campbell, an annual participant at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, and former Raiders offensive lineman Lincoln Kennedy.
