When it comes to poker rooms in Las Vegas, poker players are quick to give high marks to the Wynn Poker Room. From the in-house room to outside series like the WPT World Championship, the Wynn has established itself as a premier poker destination. That’s due in no small part to the men and women working behind the scenes to operate the 28-table room.

For years, the Director of Poker Operations was Ryan Beauregard (pictured above left), a titan in the poker industry. But now, much like Nicholas Cage in the 1995 film, Beauregard is leaving Las Vegas.

Beauregard’s departure meant there was an opening for a new Director of Poker, and to fill the role, the Wynn wisely looked in-house to Andrew Ormsby (pictured above right), who has served as Operations Manager for the past eight years. Anyone who has either regularly played or worked at the Wynn in recent years knows Ormsby and just how instrumental he is to the room’s success.

PokerNews recently spoke to Ormsby about stepping up as the Wynn’s new Director of Poker Operations.

Who is Andrew Ormsby?

Ormsby grew up in Massachusetts prior to moving to Colorado for high school. Sports were always a major part of his life, and that passion carried through to college, where he played basketball at both the Division 1 and Division 2 levels. He graduated from Eckerd College with a degree in business management with an emphasis in marketing, which has played a key role in shaping his professional path.

It was while living in Colorado that he met his wife, Amanda, to whom he’s been married for nearly 15 years.

“My family is spread across the country – my brother is an attorney in Florida, my sister is a teacher in New Hampshire, and my father is retired in Maine,” Ormsby told PokerNews. “These relationships have given me a broad perspective and strong support system throughout my career.”

Meanwhile, it was during college when he was 19 that he learned how to play poker.

“I played regularly throughout college, which helped me build a strong foundation in the game. After graduating, one of the first professional roles I accepted was with an informational poker company in Florida. Soon after, I decided to travel and focus mainly on playing poker.”

He continued: “Over time, I built relationships across the industry, which led to my first management opportunity as the manager of a poker room at a small casino. I moved between Colorado and Las Vegas, taking on larger roles in bigger poker rooms as time went on. Eventually, I landed the role as Operations Manager of Wynn’s poker room, where I spent the last eight years.”

Earlier this year, former boss and mentor, Ryan Beauregard, transitioned to a Vice President role at the upcoming Wynn Al Marjan Island resort in Ras Al Khaimah. That opened up his position, and Ormsby was just the man to fill it.

“I was honored to step into the Director of Poker position at Wynn Las Vegas,” said Ormsby. “I’m incredibly excited to continue growing the Wynn Poker brand and build on the success that’s already been established. Our leadership team consists of me, Tournament Director Ray Pulford, and Ryan Kirk. Ryan filled my former role (Assistant Director) and previously served as Director at Aria’s poker room.

“The three of us are very aligned and energized about the future. Our focus is on delivering a premier experience for our players. While there may not be any drastic changes on the horizon, players can expect continued improvements and a commitment to making Wynn one of the best places in the world to play poker.”

Ormsby’s first big series after the promotion is the 2026 Wynn Summer Classic, which is already underway and being reported by PokerNews.

“Summer is always one of the most exciting times of the year, with many players visiting Las Vegas from all over the world,” Ormsby told PokerNews. “The championship portion of our Wynn Summer Classic event is something we look forward to every year and a highlight of the series. In addition, we’ve expanded our schedule to include more mixed game events than ever before, giving players a wider variety of options. We’re excited to offer something for everyone, no matter what type of game they may be seeking.”
