Kings, Queens and Jacks All Make Sets in Wild Four-Way All-In at Borgata
Table Of Contents
It takes something special to stop a tournament room in its tracks, but a four-way all-in during the $600 Deep Stack Kick Off at the Borgata Summer Poker Open powered by BetMGM Poker, did exactly that.
The tournament is the marquee opener of the BSPO festival featuring more than $4 million in guaranteed prize pools. The Deep Stack Kick Off alone boasts a $1,000,000 guarantee, with players currently battling to survive to Sunday's Day 2.
Set-Over-Set-Over-Set, Oh My!
There was a huge eruption from Table 12 during Day 1E after four players got all of their chips into the middle.
At the start of Level 7, with blinds of 400/800, Kole Lekic, Daniel Leahy, Ben Weaver and John Dorsey were all all-in, creating a main pot of 42,300, along with side pots of 59,300 and 200.
Some of the action was recapped by Lekic, who described the hand as a "shove fest."
Dorsey opened under the gun before Weaver jammed from the next seat for 19,800. Leahy, with 19,700, called off his stack, and Lekic then committed his last 10,100 from the small blind. Dorsey had everyone covered, but only by a handful of chips, and called.
Kole Lekic: K♦K♣
Daniel Leahy: J♣J♦
Ben Weaver: Q♠Q♥
John Dorsey: A♠4♠
The table erupted when the dealer spread the K♥J♥7♣ flop, giving Lekic top set and Leahy middle set. The 9♣ turn changed little, leaving Dorsey drawing dead while Leahy remained in front for the biggest side pots.
But the drama wasn't over. The Q♦ river gave Weaver a set of queens to leapfrog Leahy and earn both side pots, while Lekic's set of kings remained best in the main pot to secure the quadruple-up. Leahy was eliminated from the hand, while Dorsey was left on fumes and busted shortly afterwards.
Defending Champ Lauer in Great Shape to Defend Title
The Deep Stack Kick Off has completed four of its six starting flights, before the field combines for Day 2.
The opening two flights saw defending champion James Lauer make an immediate statement. Lauer topped Day 1a with 1,140,000 chips, becoming the first player to bag a seven-figure stack as he began his title defense in style. Lauer topped 2,026 entry field last year to take home the $164,830 first-place prize.
Day 1a attracted 378 entries, with 48 players making the money and 31 advancing. Leo Saiag (758,000) and Scott Lesh (625,000) joined Lauer atop the leaderboard, while Bijay Lama burst the money bubble by winning a flip against Hector Santucci.
Another 189 entries took part in Day 1b, where Robert Elias bagged 955,000 to edge Steven Petitte (930,000). Sixteen players advanced from the flight after 24 players collected the $1,200 min-cash.
Friday's Day 1c drew the biggest field to that point with 410 entries. Bartholomew Golik topped the 33 survivors with 971,000, ahead of Dale Capuano (879,000) and Joseph Cutler (818,000). Cutler also delivered the knockout on the money bubble after his ace-jack improved against pocket sevens.
The evening Day 1d added another 239 entries, but it belonged to Pavel Kim, who became the first player to break the 1.5 million mark. Kim bagged 1,511,000 chips to take over the overall chip lead heading into the final day of starting flights. James Goldblatt (634,000) and Roberto Pagano (624,000) finished second and third in the flight.
