If you're in or near San Franscisco tonight, you can play some poker with Alan Keating, but you won't need a six-figure buy-in to face the high roller.
Keating is hosting the $100 buy-in Founders Poker Tournament at 6 p.m. to celebrate the launch of his first venture fund, Hero Call Ventures. The popular Hustler Casino Live and High Stakes Poker player isn't just hosting the event to play some poker with fans. He's giving players an opportunity to pitch their business ideas to him.
How the Tournament Works
Keating is more than just a poker player who competes for millions of dollars on the felt. He's spent years investing in start-ups and is now, for the first time, starting a fund others can invest in. The poker tournament is being used as a means for giving investors a relaxing and fun opportunity to pitch their ideas.
Prior to the start of the tournament, a small group of founders will be selected to pitch Keating and Hero Vetures live at the venue. Those chosen will have the attention of the room and Keating, and get a few minutes to make the case for what they're trying to build.
This isn't the show Shark Tank. There won't be a long panel of judges — no Mark Cuban or Kevin O'Leary waiting to trash your idea to make for good TV. Just a longtime investor who is seeking some brilliant ideas to invest in.
The tournament has a unique structure where players earn a point every time they bust another player. At 8:30 p.m., the players who've accumulated the most points will move over to Keating's table and have an opportunity to chat and play poker with the high-stakes cash game legend. Doors open at 6 p.m. and cards will be in the air right at 7.
