If ever there was a good time to run hotter than the sun in poker, it would be at the final table of a tournament. Sheffield's Fraser Bellamy did just that as he clinched the £250 GUKPT Blackpool Mini Main title and a £27,945 prize.

Bellamy admitted that lady Luck shone down on him during the final table's proceedings, but was keen to point out, "It wasn't 100% luck" and that he had made some plays en route to victory. The seasoned pro defeated Michael Rosaman to bag the title and another title on his resume.

The cashier processed some 687 entries, resulting in a £143,580 prize pool that the top 84 finishers won a slice of.

Among those who finished in the money were John Bousfield, Jamie Clossick, Kully Sidhu, Philip Tate, Calogero Morreale, Sinead Davenport, Andreas Olympios, and final table bubble boy Jamie Dale.

Each of the nine finalists locked in a £2,040 score. George Heath collected that sum after bowing out in ninth. This was only Heath's third recorded live cash, and his largest to date.

Peter Stewart, a fifth-place finisher in the GUKPT Manchester Main Event earlier this year, fell in eighth for £2,590 before Neil Woolfrey saw his tournament end in a seventh place finish worth £3,390.

Sixth place and a career-best £4,600 went to Sam Hughes. Gary Fowler was then eliminated in fifth for a £6,480 payday, with Connor Heelis getting his hands on a £9,330 prize after falling in fourth.

The final three players discussed then agreed on a deal that lessened the pay jumps. The deal left £6,400 more, and the trophy, for the eventual champion.

Third place went to Ashley Timms, a controversial and maligned character. Timms committed his stack on the turn, having turned a Broadway straight with his ace-queen, and Bellamy called with king-jack, which had turned two pair. Another king on the river filled Bellamy's boat, and heads-up was set.

Bellamy held a chip lead of almost five-to-one at the time of the final hand. He opened with ace-eight, Rosaman ripped in 17 big blinds with king-queen, and Bellamy called. An ace-high all-club flop wasn't any help for Rosaman, especially as Bellamy held a club. Rosaman was drawing dead on the turn. He stood and shook Bellamy's hand, as the latter was announced as the tournament's champion.

David Doherty Crowned PLO High Roller Champion

A compact field of 22 entrants competed in the £1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller, with the top three winning some of the £23,750 prize pool.

Jay Harwood, who is usually found in the GUKPT live stream commentary booth, was the first of that trio to cash. His third-place exit came with £4,750.

Harwood's demise left David Doherty heads-up against Brandon Sheils. Doherty got the job done, and secured £11,870, leaving Sheils to walk away with £7,130 and a runner-up finish.

There was also a win for Keith Littlewood, who triumphed in the £200 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo. Littlewood came out on top of a 66-strong field and turned his £200 into £3,690.

Today is Bonfire Night in the United Kingdom, but there will be a different kind of fireworks at the Grosvenor Casino on the South Promenade in Blackpool.

At noon, Day 2 of the £1,500 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller shuffles up and deals. Late registration is available until the start of play, and it's needed because the 43 entrants on Day 1 have left £40,600 overlay on the £100,000 guarantee.

Andrew Bradshaw (776,000) is the current High Roller chip leader, with the likes of Priyan De Mel (536,000), Mitch Johnson (378,000), Brandon Sheils (371,000), Endrit Geci (330,000), Kully Sidhu (233,000), Bryan Taylor (191,000), and Jamie Dale (117,000) also among the Day 2 returnees.

An hour later, the first of three £1,250 GUKPT Blackpool Main Event flights begins. That is followed at 5:00 p.m. GMT by a £150 NLHE Deepstack, and at 8:00 p.m. GMT by the £140 Main Event satellite which carries a 10x £1,250 seat guarantee.
