Boris Angelov’s poker journey began online, where he was influenced by talented Bulgarian players, including his close friend Alex Kulev. Post-pandemic, he transitioned to live tournaments, marking his debut on the European Poker Tour (EPT) circuit in March 2022 at the EPT Prague Main Event, where he finished 59th.
Since then, he hasn’t missed an EPT event, demonstrating his commitment and passion for the game. At the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event this month, he earned his 20th bracelet event cash, and now he has a shot to win $10 million and become a world champion.
The Bulgarian poker player had just over $900,000 in live tournament cashes, according to The Hendon Mob. His largest prior score went for $663,565 when he finished second to Derk van Luijk in the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event just a few weeks before the 2024 WSOP began.
Angelov reached the 2024 WSOP Main Event final table with 52,900,000 chips, placing him sixth when the action resumed.
"They've been amazing," he said. "They push me and keep me going. I just feel like I can't go out when they're behind.
"I think [winning the Main Event] will be amazing for poker in Bulgaria. At least I hope so."
The Bulgarian's deep Main Event run ended in a fifth-place finish worth $2,500,000. Angelov moved all-in for his last six big blinds with pocket sixes, and Jonathan Tamayo called with king-six. A king on the flop left Angelov drawing thin, with another king on the turn leaving him drawing dead.
