Biography

Susie "Susie Q" Zhao was an American poker player who played and commentated on the Live at the Bike stream and made multiple deep runs in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. In July 2020, Zhao was murdered by convicted sex offender Jeffery Bernard Morris.

Zhao migrated to the US from China at a young age and discovered poker in middle school. “After school, she would routinely meet other kids in the basement of the apartment complex and win their allowance," a childhood friend said during Morris' trial. “(Zhao) liked that it was a boy’s game and with her natural charisma, mathematical aptitude and skill for reading others, she found a lot of power in a deck of cards.”

After graduating with a degree in psychology from Northwestern University, Zhao took up professional poker and became a regular in the Los Angeles poker scene.

After several delays in part brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Morris stood trial in late 2022 and was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
