Dubrovkin and Murillo Clash

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

A huge hand played out between 888Live qualifier Alexey Dubrovkin and David Murillo clashed in a big pot with 20 minutes to go until the first break of Day 1a.

With the board displaying {3-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, Dubrovkin led for 2,000 and only Murillo called, with the pot of 9,000 in the middle having gone three-way until that point. The river {K-Clubs} saw Dubrovkin bet 3,500 and Murillo thought for a couple of minutes before spinning the call into the middle. Dubrovkin showed {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, good enough for the win as Murillo tossed his cards into the muck at speed, the {7-Diamonds} flipping face up for the table to see.

While Dubrovkin looks to have the chip lead in the room with 56,000, Murillo is down to comparative fumes with two-thirds of his starting stack redistributed around the table.

Some Chops Are Better Than Others

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

There are chop pots and chop pots. Some are quick, painless and played out in near silence as both players are home and dry from the flop. Others are twisted, cruel and played out to incredulity from one player and relief from another.

This chop pot was the latter, and came after Thierry Gogniat called with {A-Spades}{J-Spades} against Javier Sanchez's {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds} after the flop came {J-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts}. The turn {3-Hearts} and river {4-Clubs} completed a 'wheel' straight for both players. As you can imagine, Sanchez was slightly less delighted than Gogniat with the outcome.

Arifhodzic Plays the Flush Card

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

A board of {6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{A-Hearts} led to Francisco Vall making a bet of 800 on the turn from first position, called by Sasa Arifhodzic in the big blind.

The two men saw a river of {2-Hearts} fall, and while Vall checked, Arifhodzic bet 2,300 and it was possible Vall had feared that flush card coming in, as he made a fold that seemed to hurt.

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Kimmo Kurko was in the process of firing out a bet of 2,500 into a pot of at least three times that on the river of a board showing {10-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{A-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Clubs}.

Kurko's opponent n the hand was none other than Kelly Kelner, whose promise of 'Kellstermania' has so far led to him taking an active part in most pots and engaging the table in friendly chat in order to "bring the fun back to poker". It's in no way sarcastic to suggest it's working and his table are having a great time, with more talk and laughter coming from the eight that share his felt than anywhere else in the 888Live tournament room.

Kelner, who folded his {J-Spades}{9-Spades} after some thought, was shown Kurko's winning hand of {J-Clubs}{2-Clubs}.

"I'm not ashamed of my hand." he said, to more laughter. When we counted his chips, he told us that "I got it all back and more." That story checks out, with Kellner now leading the way in the room.

Bence Szaszko drove the action in the latest pot at Table 4, with Level 2 under way in the Main Event. He opened to 300 in the cutoff and was called by Simen Gulbrandsen on the button and another player in the big blind.

On the flop of {4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, Szaszko made it 650 to continue and was only called by the player in the big blind. The turn of {9-Clubs} saw both players check but on the {3-Spades} river, Szaszko's bet of 825 got a fold. While Szaszko has stablised, he got off to a tough start and now has over half a starting stack.

Three Barrels Good Enough for Sanchez

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

We joined the action at another Main Event table with Manuel Sanchez c-betting the flop of {Q-Spades}{3-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} to the tune of 225. His heads-up opponent in the hand, Mette Puromaeki, called.

The turn of {6-Hearts} saw Puromaeki check-call anther bet, this time 675 chips. The river came the {4-Clubs}, however, and when Sanchez made it 1,500, Puromaeki let it go.

Somodi Has Blockers

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Pre-flop, a raise from Balazs Somodi on the button was called by Ange Besnainou early position.

The flop of {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{K-Clubs} saw Somodi checked to by his opponent, so he made it an extra 800 to see a turn. Besnainou called. The turn was the {10-Diamonds} saw both men checked and they did the same on the {6-Clubs} river.

At showdown, Somodi held {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} and Besnainou grinned ruefully as he showed {A-Spades}{J-Clubs} .

"You needed one of my queens." said Somodi, pulling the pile of chips towards him. Not strictly true, but he had Besnainou roadblocked on his route to Broadway.

Kellner Stalls His Start

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Kelly Kellner has made an effort to win the first pot of this €500,000 guarantee Main Event at the 888Liver Main Event here in Barcelona, but he's run into trouble. Opening to 375 in first position, Kellner got a call only from the gentleman in the next seat.

The flop of {J-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} saw Kellner lead out for 775, getting a quick call. On the turn of {8-Spades} he bet 1,775 and again got a call. But the biggest bet was saved for the river. That fell the {8-Spades} and Kellner bet 5,000 chips. He was called, however and while Kellner was bluffing with {5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, his opponent turned over {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} for the winning hand.

"Nice hand, nice flop for you too." said Kellner, who will need to recover. He - like every other player - has the opportunity of unlimited re-entries on Day 1, however.
