Day 1a Completed

A Quick Round Up of Day 1a

There are 10 levels in the books and Day 1a came down to a close early this morning. After the first day of play, 44 players entered and only 13 players survived to make it through to day 2. The players who entered yesterday were mostly quiet, packed into a small bunch across the room from the High Roller Event, while most of the pros tried to navigate their way through the High Roller.

Leading the way after the first day of play was one player who decided not to put his name on their end of day bag. They were only listed as "Oponente." The person in question managed to bag up 195,400 chips and they are a local from here in São Paulo. Bagging the second biggest stack yesterday was another local from São Paulo, Fernando Da Rocha. Da Rocha bagged up 183,600, just slightly less than "Oponente."

They will rejoin the rest of the players on Day 2 which begins Sunday, September 10th at 2 p.m. where we will begin with the hand for hand updates of this event. Make sure you stay tuned in as we provide you with updates throughout the week.

Early Photos From 888Live São Paulo

Action is just getting underway here at 888Live São Paulo. The satellite to the
High Roller is currently in play, as is the High Roller which just kicked off at 5 p.m. local time (~50 minutes ago). Currently seated among the first group of players to enter the High Roller are Sofia Lövegren, Leo Margets and Tiffany Michelle, all of whom are supporting an 888Poker patch.

The 888Live Event is being sponsored by Breitling, a watch manufacturer who has created a beautiful watch that shares the colors of 888Poker for the winner of the Main Event with an estimated value of around $13,000 USD. This watch will be just one of the perks of taking down the Main Event as a $13,000 package to the World Series of Poker Europe in the Czech Republic is also up for grabs. We'll be sure to catch up with some of the players later and ask them for their thoughts on the added prizes.

The Main Event is set to start in just a few hours with Day 1a kicking off and we'll catch up with some of the players to talk shop as well as to get some of their early impressions about the venue and the 888Live tournaments so far.

Photos from this event come from Joe Giron who is shooting for 888Poker.

Stay tuned!

Welcome to 888Live São Paulo!

888Live São Paulo Kicks Off Today
888Live São Paulo Kicks Off Today

Today 888Poker kicks off the 888Live Festival in São Paulo. The tournament itself will take place at the Casa Bossa – Shopping Cidade Jardim and will run from September 6 – 11.

The six day festival will be a host to multiple tournaments, including a R$2,500 (~$800 USD) High Roller with R$200,000 (~$65,000 USD) Guaranteed, a R$500 (~$160 USD) Ladies Event, and of course the R$1,000,000 (~$320,000 USD) Guaranteed Main Event which PokerNews will be providing coverage for throughout the week.

São Paulo has been dubbed my many, including 888Poker’s own Bruno Foster Politano, as the best place in Brazil to play poker. It is the country’s most populated city with over 12 million people living in it and is home to the country’s tallest buildings, as well as over 12,000 different restaurants. São Paulo is also touted for having some of the best nightlife in the country, so, if you’re not playing poker there should be plenty to do and plenty to eat.

A list of poker superstars is slated to attend including Politano, as well Sofia Lövgren, Kara Scott, Chris ‘moorman1’ Moorman, Leo Margets, Tiffany Michelle and Nicolau Villa-Lobos.

Also this week will be two invite only tournaments including a celebrity event and a Flop O Mania – 6 Max event, both taking place on Friday, September 8th. Flop O Mania is 888Poker’s newest innovation in Poker. The game released earlier in mid-August and is very similar to No-Limit Hold’em, albeit one big change; There is no preflop. This creates a faster paced, more action heavy game. You can try your hand at Flop O Mania on 888poker by downloading the client on 888poker.com.

The celebrity invitational tournament is set to feature 888poker ambassador Denílson de Oliveira Araújo will join his friend and former soccer world champion Cafu. The special celebrity charity event hosted by 888poker will make a donation to the “Cafu Foundation.”

The R$1,300 (~$420 USD) Main Event here at 888Live São Paulo will feature six starting flights over the next four days, starting Wednesday, September 6th at 8 p.m. local time all the way up to Saturday, September 9th with two final starting flights at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. local time.

One of the biggest draws of the 888Live Festivals is not only the prizepools and awesome venues, but the fact that the winners of the Ladies Event, the High Roller, and the Main Event will all receive $13,000 Packages to the WSOP Europe which kicks off on October 19th in the Czech Republic.
