£2,200 High Roller Smashes Guarantee; Song Leads 32 Survivors After Day 1

Level 9 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Yiqian Song
Yiqian Song

The second event of the 2018 888poker LIVE Festival London follows into the footsteps of the €220 Opening Event and easily surpassed the guaranteed prize pool of £50,000, as Day 1 of the £2,200 High Roller attracted a total of 61 entries. Of those, only 32 players bagged up chips and will return for Day 2 on Thursday, November 29th, 2018, to the Aspers Casino in the Westfield Stratford City.

Leading the field after nine levels of 30 minutes each is UK's Yiqian Song with 433,500, followed by Ajay Kejriwal (407,500) and Gerald Ringe (396,500). Among those to bag and tag for the night were also such notables as , Matas Cimbolas (226,000), 888poker ambassador Martin Jacobson (203,000), 2018 WSOP Europe Main Event champ Jack Sinclair (157,500), Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi (148,000), Thomas Muehloecker (114,500), High Roller regular Orpen Kisacikoglu (89,000) and 888poker ambassador Chris Moorman (31,000).

Along with all other events of the festival in London, the £2,200 featured a 30-second shot clock and the tournament also included the very popular big blind ante format. Almost half of the field was eliminated throughout Day 1 including the 2018 WSOP Main Event champion John Cynn and runner-up Tony Miles, Antoine Labat, Enzo Del Piero and the 888poker ambassadors Parker Talbot, Ana Marquez, and Vivian Saliba.

Within just a few minutes into the first level, Terry Jordon had missclicked and became the first casualty of the day, however, the Brit re-entered and advanced with a stack of 116,000. In the second level of the day, Martin Donoghue had sent Harry Lodge and Labat to the rail, Lodge bought back in but didn't find a bag at the end of level nine either.

The 2018 WSOP Main Event final table revival kicked off in the second level when John Cynn sat down at the same table as Tony Miles, and Antoine Labat was eliminated only a few meters away one table over. Miles claimed the stack of Cynn, but also ran out of chips before bagging and tagging.

Team 888poker was represented by Ana Marquez, Vivian Saliba, Parker Talbot, Chris Moorman and 2014 WSOP Main Event champion Martin Jacobson. Moorman was two-outed by Terry Jordon in the final level of the night when he failed to hold up with pocket tens versus pocket treys. Talbot, Saliba and Marquez also fell, the latter saw her ace-king end up second-best to the ace-queen of Francis Foord-Brown.

The late registration for the event remains open until the start of Day 2 at 5 p.m. local time and Dominik Nitsche is among those expected to enter the £2,200 High Roller before the cards go back in the air. All new entries will receive 100,000 in chips, 20 big blinds for the restart at blinds of 2,500/5,000 with a big blind ante of 5,000. The tournament is scheduled to play down to a champion and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to provide all the action.

Sam Grafton
Sam Grafton

Jack Sinclair raised to 7,000 and was called by Terry Bordon and Vadim Cojocaru. Sam Grafton then moved all in for 59,500 and Christopher Kyriacou jammed over the top to isolate successfully.

Sam Grafton: {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}
Christopher Kyriacou: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

On a board of {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, Kyriacou turned the nut straight to send Grafton packing. Kyriacou also three-bet jammed the net hand and this time there was no showdown that followed.

Francis Foord-Brown raised to 5,000 and Ana Marquez moved all in for her last 58,000 from one seat over. Foord-Brown asked for a count and eventually called without using a timebank.

Ana Marquez: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Francis Foord-Brown: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

The board came {J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Clubs}{K-Spades} and the king on the river improved Foord-Brown to the straight.

Del Piero Vanishes in Two Hands

Level 5 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Enzo Del Piero
Enzo Del Piero

Enzo Del Piero invested 10,000 preflop against Jack Sinclair and both then checked the {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{8-Clubs} flop. On the [¢8h] turn, Del Piero bet 10,000 and folded to a shove by Sinclair.

One hand later, Del Piero three-bet all in for the last 8,000 and initial raiser Cheng Rui Wong called to create the following showdown:

Enzo Del Piero: {8-Hearts}{3-Spades}
Cheng Rui Wong: {7-Spades}{5-Spades}

The board came {Q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{J-Spades}{Q-Spades} and Wong paired up on the flop, then improved to a flush on the river for good measure.

Muehloecker and Cynn Eliminated

Level 4 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Thomas Muehloecker
Thomas Muehloecker

On the {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{J-Hearts} turn, Thomas Muehloecker check-shoved for what appeared to be 80,000 and Pascal Pflock, who had et 25,000, snap-called to put the Austrian at risk. Muehloecker had flopped best with the {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}, but Pflock had improved to a better set with the {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}.

The {10-Diamonds} on the river was a blank and Muehloecker busted for a second time. Soon after, Tony Miles sent John Cynn packing and took a tiny bit of revenge for the lost heads-up duel in Las Vegas.

Donoghue Busts Lodge and Labat

Level 2 : 300/600, 600 ante
Martin Donoghue
Martin Donoghue

In a three-way pot with 4,500 invested each, the flop came {A-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and Martin Donoghue bet 6,000 and Terry Jordon folded, Harry Lodge called on the button. The {K-Clubs} came on the turn and Donoghue now made it 12,000 to go, again Lodge called.

After the {J-Spades} river, Donoghue bet 30,000 and Lodge moved all in, Donoghue snap-called and Lodge turned over his {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} for top two pair. However, Donoghue had spiked the nut straight with {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and scored the knockout.

Shortly after on the same table, Antoine Labat was all in for 3,700 preflop and he was called four ways. It was Donoghue that bet the {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop, making it 5,000 to go. All opponents folded and he turned over the very same queen-ten, flashing {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. Labat only had {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and the {K-Spades} turn and {Q-Diamonds} river failed to save the Frenchman.
