Barkay Busts Robbiano; Balzano Falls to Camarda

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante
Pietro Robbiano
Pietro Robbiano

Ali Polat was missing from table 16 as Salvatore Camarda occupied his seat and another two players would bust in consecutive hands soon after Camarda had been moved there.

Pietro Robbiano opened and picked up a caller in Benjamin Barkay on the button. Robbiano bet the {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop for 3,000 and Barkay raised to 9,000, which Robbiano called. On the {6-Clubs} turn, Robbiano check-shoved for more than 45,000 and Barkay reluctantly called after nearly two minutes.

Pietro Robbiano: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Benjamin Barkay: {k-Spades}{10-Spades}

The {10-Diamonds} river further improved Barkay to a full house and he won the big pot.

"Snap call?!" Silviu Baltateanu said in table chat while the chips were pushed to the Belgian, who finished 16th in this very event one year ago.

In the next hand, Ivan Balzano pushed for the last 7,000 from under the gun and Salvatore Camarda called in the big blind.

Ivan Balzano: {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Salvatore Camarda: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

The board came {6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and that was it for Balzano.

Gregori Scoops a Pot

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Oriol Gregori
Oriol Gregori

Francesco Di Profio limped in, the button raised to 2,100 and Oriol Gregori called in the small blind, as did Yaron Ben Avi in the big blind. On the {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop, the button made it 4,500 to go and Gregori was the only caller.

The {9-Hearts} turn and {q-Hearts} river were checked and Gregori showed {8-Spades}{7-Spades} for a pair of eights, which won the pot.

Gurrutxaga Busts Once More

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Jon Gurrutxaga
Jon Gurrutxaga

Jon Gurrutxaga peaked at more than 110,000 not too long ago, then dropped to around half of that. Just now, he was involved in a preflop war with big stack Jai Saha and three-bet only for Saha to four-bet shove.

Gurrutxaga had around 48,000 total and used some of his time banks before making the call with {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Saha showed {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} and a board full of rags later, Gurrutxaga left the tournament area for the second time today.

A "Big Gift" for Lootsma

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Yaron Ben Avi was no longer seated and Werner Lootsma was sitting behind a big stack, which prompted fellow Dutchman Teunis Kooij to mention "it was a gift, an early Christmas gift."

According to Kooij, Lootsma had three-bet to 9,000 on the button and Ben Avi then four-bet shoved in the multi-way pot for 60,000 with ace-ten. Lootsma called with queens and held up to join the big stacks.

In the next hand, Lootsma raised to 2,300 and Francesco Di Profio called from one seat over. Lootsma continued for 3,000 on the {j-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop and was called, which prompted a second barrel and call on the {10-Diamonds} turn. The {j-Clubs} river was checked and they both showed king-queen to chop it up.

Biri Adds More Chips

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Marcello Miniucchi has emerged as one of the bigger stacks and Balazs Biri continues to dominate the action at his table. With another over-bet on the river of a four-card straight board, he forced a fold and claimed the pot without showdown.

Tom-Aksel Bedell lost half of his stack and dropped below the average as just half of the Day 1b field remains with 80 players out of 162 entries still claiming chips to their name in the late stages of the night.

Lamarca Capa Takes On the Italians

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Luca Marchetti bet the {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Spades} flop for 6,500 and Jose Maria Lamarca Capa raised to 15,000. Marchetti gave it some thought and called.

On the {2-Hearts} turn, Marchetti checked and Lamarca Capa moved all in. That sent Marchetti into the think tank and he used his last two time banks, which ran down to see his cards declared dead.

Soon after, another Italian took on Lamarca Capa in Giuseppe Carbone. The {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop brought a check-call for 6,500 by Carbone, who then check-folded the {2-Diamonds} turn when facing a bet of 13,000.

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
