Huge Start for Miroslav

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Miroslav Sheynin made the final table of this event last year, finishing in 6th place. Now, in 2013, Sheynin has made a great start to making another deep run.

We arrived at what would be a massive hand with around {7-Clubs}{j-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop on the felt, around 5,000 in the pot and with Sheynin, Steven Sale and Ken Demlakian all involved in the hand.

Sale was first to act and led for 1,500. Demlakian then quickly made it 3,600 to go. Sheynin took his time to make the call, while Sale also flicked out some chips.

The turn was a {6-Clubs} and this time Sale checked and Demlakian bet 5,400. Sheynin counted out his stack and made the call, leaving himself just under 7,000 behind. Sale also made the call and the dealer readied the final card.

The river was an {8-Spades} and it was quickly checked to Sheynin. After just a couple of moments, Sheynin moved all in for 6,625.
Sale called off all his chips – slightly less than Sheynin’s stack – and the action was on Demlakian.

Demlakian took his sunglasses off and eventually shrugged and said, “I guess I have to call.”

“Nuts,” said Sheynin, turning over his {q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}.

Demlakian showed his {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and left himself crippled, while Sale’s cards went into the muck and he made his way out of the tournament area.

Sheynin is now up to around 50,000 in chips, which is huge for this early stage of the tournament.

Fun on Table Seven

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Koray Turker and Wayde Rickhuss have been quite chatty on Table 7, rumbling in several pots and having a laugh while they did so.

The most recent hand to play out between Turker and Rickhuss saw the two players take to a {a-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} flop, with Rickhuss being in the big blind and Turker on the button. Rickhuss check-called a bet of 500 here, then check-called a bet of 700 on the {j-Clubs} turn and check-called a bet of 600 on the {10-Spades} river.

“You feeling good or bad right now?” Turker asked Rickhuss before he showed {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}. Rickhuss didn’t feel too bad, turning over {a-Clubs}{5-Hearts}, which was good for half the pot.

Anunu and Harji Side-by-Side

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

2012 ANZ Player of the Year Mishel Anunu and last year’s ANZPT Auckland third place finish Pravin Harji are seated next to each other on Table 8. These two players recently rumbled in a hand.

We arrived at the action on the {7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop, with Harji checking to Anunu, who bet 1,000. Eventually Harji made the call and the dealer flipped over a {Q-Spades}. Both Anunu and Harji checked here and then did the same on the {10-Diamonds} river.

“Ace-High,” said Anunu, keeping his cards face down.

Harji snapped over {k-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and that was enough to send Anunu’s cards flying into the muck.

Turker Building a Stack

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

New Zealand's Koray Turker has been known to accumulate big stacks in ANZPT events. We remember back at the 2011 ANZPT Queenstown event where Turker had a huge chip stack heading into Day 2, before eventually busting in just a few quick hands. Now, early here on Day 1b of the ANZPT Auckland, Turker has already managed to amass 50,000 in chips, having started with just 20,000.

Take a retrospective look at the 2011 ANZPT Queenstown video below, where Lynn Gilmartin interviewed Turker who had been dubbed "The Terminator" and had apparently recently "punished Aaron Benton pretty badly".

Entries on Day 1b

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

The tournament clock is now telling us that 66 players entered on Day 1b of the ANZPT Auckland Main Event. Added together with the 44 from yesterday, that means 110 players have entered in the event so far. Being that there were 207 entries in this tournament last year, we would need to see around 100 players tomorrow to make that number. We are hopeful we will get close and certainly at least see a bigger field tomorrow than the 66 from today. There are currently 54 already registered for tomorrow's action.

Beardless Levy with Lots of Chips

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Daniel Levy has just wandered over to the media desk to let us know that he has gone on a bit of a heater, seeing his stack rise to 61,000 in chips – making him the chip leader.

Apparently the biggest pot that went to Levy saw a “maniac” fire three barrels on a {7-}{4-}{3-}{5-}{9-} board after opening six times the big blind preflop. Levy had {k-}{7-} and called the player down, with the third barrel being a bet of 12,500 on the river. The player had {j-}{10-} and so Levy raked in the big pot.

Levy then went on to win another handy pot on a {J-Clubs}{10-}{3-Clubs}{3-}{4-Hearts} board, with Levy holding {a-}{a-} and his opponent folding on the river.

Levy told us yesterday that he shaved off his big beard for the first time in quite a while and so his success today can most likely be attributed to that. If not, then maybe it's because the chatty Aussie is apparently losing his voice and so can concentrate on more playing and less talking.
