Day 1b Started

Welcome to ANZPT Sydney!

Welcome back to The Star in Sydney, Australia, for Day 1b of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Main Event.

Yesterday saw 209 players take their seats. By the end of the day, 86 survived, with Gary Benson finished as the overwhelming chip leader, with 193,000 in chips.

We are expecting a large number of entrants today, which will hopefully surpass last year’s figures of 461 runners who participated in the event. Some notable players who will be playing in today’s field include Jonathan Karamalakis, Andrew Hinrichsen, and Tom wing as well as Team PokerStars Team Pros Bryan Huang, Angel Guillen and Team Online pro Roy Bhasin.

Stay tuned as the Pokernews Live Reporting Team bring you all the action from 12:30 local time.

Marsland Pays to See

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

We arrived at the table to see the board spread out {6-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and the action on the player in the hijack. He bet out 2,000 and was called by Dale Marsland in the cut-off. The two saw the {a-Spades} complete the board, before Marsland called a 5,000 bet from his opponent. He wasn’t happy to see the {A-Diamonds}{7-Spades} tabled for a full house, as he mucked his cards.

Even though he lost a big pot, Marsland is still sitting on 18,000 in chips.

Grigg Out Early

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

A short-stacked Tom Grigg opened from under the gun, with a bet to 250. He found six callers preflop, who all saw the flop fall {3-Spades}{9-Clubs}{J-Spades}. All seven players checked to see the {K-Spades} drop on the turn. The big blind checked, before Grigg announced all in for his remaining 1,225 in chips. He was called by a player in middle position as well as the player on the button. The {10-Diamonds} dropped on the river and both players checked before confidently tabling {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} and {Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} respectively for straights. Grigg regrettably tabled his {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for two-pair, which was not enough to keep him in the tournament.
