Day 2 Completed

Clutch Kane on Day 2 of ANZPT Perth

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Chip leader, Michael Kane
Chip leader, Michael Kane

Another day at Crown Perth in Western Australia is all over as 36 players have made their way home having secured a spot on Day 3 of the ANZPT Perth Main Event.

It was a tight race for the end-of-day chip lead. For most of the day it was Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang who looked destined to finish on top. Huang had been on cruise control after a massive early hand that saw him win a 150 big blind pot after a preflop raising war.

However, at the clutch moments of Day 2 Michael Kane over took all others to end up with the largest stack. He is ahead of both Huang (189,200) and the UK’s Stephen Chidwick (201,900).

Some of the others who survived Day 2 and remain in contention for the six-figure top prize include Yaxi Zhu (152,800), Michael Guzzardi (149,400), Henry Szmelcer (143,300), Xuan Liu (143,000), Ash Warner (110,100), Anthony Legg (106,900), Stevan Chew (95,000) and reigning ANZ Player of the David Lim (93,900).

All these players will now return from 12:30pm local time tomorrow (Saturday) aiming to make it to the final table. Before that, however, the bubble will have to burst with the top 21 making the money. Be sure to return to PokerNews for another exciting day at the ANZPT Perth Main Event.

Kane Threatening for Lead

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Michael Kane has steadily been sneaking up the chip leader board over the last couple of levels and with the final hand of the night, looks like he might end up on top.

Kane was in the big blind with {k-}{6-} when a short-stacked player shoved with {5-}{4-}. Kane opted to call to put the player at risk and with no help on the board run out, Kane scooped the pot and sent the player home.

This hand puts Kane over 200,000.

The chip lead is a race between him, Stephen Chidwick and Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang.

Chip counts, recap of the day's action and Day 3 seating draw to be posted as soon as possible!

Final Few Hands

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The tournament clock has been paused and the remaining players have been informed that there will be three more hands at each table before Day 2 of the ANZPT Perth Main Event is all over.

Stay tuned for any last-minute action and of course, the end-of-day counts and Day 3 table draw.

Didier Dusted Late

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Didier Guerin was eliminated late in the final level of play tonight after moving all in preflop from early position.

Tamara Volkoff next to act made a an all-in raise for more and after the other players folded both players tabled their cards.

Guerin: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Volkoff: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}

Guerin needed a lot of help but a board run out of {9-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{3-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} didn’t deliver to see him hit the rail.

Xuan Sends Beh Home

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Xuan Liu has continued her rise up the counts late in the day by sending Bernard Beh home.

Beh was down to under 20,000 when Liu put him to the test on a {8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop. Beh called off his stack with {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and was in good shape against Liu's {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. Beh stayed ahead on the {6-Diamonds} turn but then graciously exited the tournament when a {j-Hearts} was dealt on the river.

Giant Puppet

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The staff here at Crown Perth have just taken to the mic to let players know that there may be traffic delays driving in and around the area due to a "giant puppet in the city."

Sounds scary.

It's a legit story, however.

Google it.
