Final Break of the Day

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

Approximately 100 players have been sent on a 10-minute break.

This is the final break of the night!

One more level and Day 1a is all over.

The number of entrants for today has been adjusted to 189.

Demlakian Decision

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

We recently arrived to find former ANZPT Queenstown runner-up Ken Demlakian and one opponent battling it out in a hand on a {3-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop. We picked up the action with Demlakian having a bet of 8,600 out in front of him, while his opponent had moved all in for 25,000. Demlakian went deep, deep into the tank and eventually opted to fold. AS the pot went to his opponent, Demlakian asked if his opponent had pocket eights.

Dales Up Over Six Figures After Interesting Hand

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

Andrew Dales has gone on a rampage at his table. Throughout the day he has dealt the fatal blow to Daniel Neilson, Ricky Kroesen and Minh Nguyen. It was Nguyen who was the most recent of these players.

Nguyen's elimination would be the point that Dales moved over six figures.

We arrived at the aftermath of the hand, with Minh Nguyen being all in with {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}, Dales having {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} and third all in player having {10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. The board had run out {9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds} for Dales to deal the double elimination.

There were so many chips in the pot that we were a little baffled as to how the player with the ten-eight got involved. The players at the table told us that the interesting action that apparently played out like so: Nguyen opened, the other player flat-called, Dales three-bet, Nguyen four-bet all in for 46,000, the other player five-bet all in for 56,000 and Dales called all in to put them both at risk.

Two of the Big Stacks

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

We have just had a wander around The Star poker room to look for the chip leaders and came across recent Aussie Millions final tablist Anthony Legg with a very healthy stack of around 75,000. Legg told us it's just been "one of them days when everything has gone right."

2011 ANZPT Adelaide champ Octavian Voegele, meanwhile, is the only player we can see over six-figures in chips!

Double for Short Krost

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

2010 Aussie Millions Main Event champ Tyron Krost was down to just 2,800 when he got his chips in preflop holding {k-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} against {a-Spades}{q-Spades}. Luckily for Krost the board ran out {k-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and it was time for a double up. Krost is now right around ten big blinds.

Final Level of Registration

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

There are approximately 137 players remaining of the 190 starters. We remind everyone that registration is still open until the end of the next break which will take place after one more level. That will be around 1:00am, so maybe its a little unlikely there will be any new entrants.

Blinds: 300/600

Dales Rivers Nuts, Sends One Home

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Andrew Dales stack has grown to around double the average as we move towards the pointy end of Day 1a of ANZPT Sydney.

We recently watched Dales scoop up a very nice pot on a {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{q-Spades}{3-Hearts} board.

When we arrived at the action there was a bet of 5,500 in front of Dales lone opponent and a large 29,600 in front of Dales with his opponent only having another 19,000 behind. There was only a small amount already in the pot, so there had presumably been some back and forth re-raising by this point.

Dales opponent thought long and hard before eventually making the call to put his tournament life at risk.

At showdown Dales tbaled {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for the nut flush and the player was eliminated!

Big Double for Rubie

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Brendon Rubie has just found a big double up.

It started with Rubie opening to 900 from under the gun. The big blind was the lone caller and with that, the dealer flipped over a {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{k-Clubs} flop. Rubie led for 1,000 when his opponent checked and a call would see a {2-Clubs} hit the turn. This time Rubie's opponent check-called a bet of 2,400 and a {5-Clubs} completed the board on the river. When it was checked for a third time, Rubie moved all in for 9,650. After some thought, the player called and Rubie turned over {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} for the nut-flush. His opponent, meanwhile, flashed a {q-Clubs} for the second nut flush as his cards went into the muck.
