Jan Suchanek has more than US$650,000 in tournament results on his record and will be looking to add to that here at ANZPT Sydney. Unfortunately, however, Suchanek hasn't started too strongly after losing a big pot recently.
We arrived with a board already on the felt and with quite a large pot building. Suchanek checked to his lone opponent and was faced with a bet of 2,000. Back on Suchanek and he would take just a second before check-raising to 8,000. Suchaneke's opponent quickly called and tabled for a flush - enough to send Suchanek's cards into the muck.
Suchanek is now down under half the starting stack.
Just a short while into the third level of Day 1a of the ANZPT Sydney Main Event and prominent Australian pro Daniel Neilson has been eliminated.
We aren't exactly sure when the chips went in, but we know Neilson was starting to get relatively short-stacked when he held against Andrew Dales' . It looked like the chips went in on either the flop or turn of a board, with Neilson having a flush draw and ultimately not finding the club he needed.
John Caridad and Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang are on the same table and the two players recently rumbled in a pot.
It started with Caridad opening to 525 from under the gun. The player two spots to Caridad's left made the call, while Huang, from the cut off, also called.
On the flop, it was checked to Huang, who bet 800. Back on Caridad and he check-raised to 2,100. The other player involved in the pot quickly folded and the action was on Huang. After just a couple of moments, Huang clicked it back to 3,700. Caridad flat-called and the dealer turned over a turn. This time both players checked, just as they did on the river.
At showdown, Caridad tabled s and Huang checked his cards before sending them into the muck.
Huang is struggling on around 8,000. Caridad, meanwhile, is cruising on a stack nearing 30,000.
Robert Spano made a deep run in the ANZPT Sydney Main Event last year, ultimately finishing in 13th place. Spano is here in tonight's field and has started strong after we recently watched him take down a sizable pot on a board. We arrived to the hand on the river with Spano leading out for 3,675 against one opponent. There was quite a large amount of chips already in the middle and Spano's opponent took a long time before folding.
Ricky Kroesen and Andrew Dales have just battled in a little bit of a hand.
Kroesen was in middle position and opened it up to 500. Dales three-bet to 1,300 from the button and Kroesen flat-called. On the flop, Kroesen check-called a bet of 1,300 and with that, the dealer turned over a turn. This time Kroesen led for 2,000 (leaving himself around 8,000 behind) and Dales eventually folded, flashing an as he did.
The players have just been reminded that late registration is open for the first six levels of play today. The total field is up to 177 so far and there might be a couple of late stragglers before the end of registration. For those keeping track of numbers, there were 211 entrants who played last year's equivalent Day 1a flight.
