Sunder Double Through Kanaan

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Vijay Sunder had a very poor start to the day, falling to just a few thousand in chips. He recently got those chips in preflop against 2011 ANZPT Sydney champion Michael Kanaan, with Sunder in good shape holding {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} against Kanaan's {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}. The board ran out {j-Clubs}{2-Spades}{q-Clubs}{q-Spades}{3-Spades}, with Sunder having a bit of a sweat, but ultimately scooped the pot.

This was only a small hit to Kanaan's stack.

One for the ANZPT Ambassador

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

We arrived to find Full Tilt ANZPT Ambassador Tom Grigg facing a check-raise on the turn of a {q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} board. Grigg had led for 900 when it was checke to him and his opponent then raised it up to 2,000. Grigg called and a {3-Diamonds} completed the board. Both players checked and Grigg tabled {4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. His opponent flipped over {a-Clubs}{8-Spades} for just ace-high and the pot went to Grigg.

Jennis Pushes Harji Around

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

One of the few ladies in the field, Janette Jennis, has just shown former ANZPT Auckland final tablist Pravin Harji who is boss.

We arrived at the action with Pravin and Jennis involved in the hand on a {8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{q-Clubs} flop. Harji led for 2,000 and Jennis called. The turn was a {a-Spades} and this time Harji bet 3,000. Jennis called and the board was completed with an {8-Clubs}. Harji decided to check and Jennis immediately jammed her stack of around 15,000 in the middle, announcing “all in”. Harji folded.

Money, Money, Money

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

The numbers are in! A very large 170 players entered on Day 1b, which added with the players from Day 1a, means a total field of 255 players has created a prize pool of $510,000. That is the second largest prize pool for this event in history, but is the largest field for a buy-in of more than $2,000 – the first two years of this tournament were a $2,500 event as opposed to $2,200.

The top 27 players will pick up a piece of the prize pool, with the min-cash worth $4,080. A spot at the final table will lock up $12,240, while the eventual champ will pocket $131,325. Check out the final nine payouts below and checkout the prize pool page for full information.

Hoorah for Hullah

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Andrew Hullah already has more chips than our chip leader from Day 1a, and we’re not even half way through the day!

Hullah already had a healthy stack when six players committed 500 apiece to see a flop of {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. Action checked to Jonathan Karamalikis in early position who bet 1,150. There was one caller before Hullah check-raised from the big blind to 3,000. Karamalikis folded before the third player moved all in for 11,750. Hullah made the call with {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for bottom set, but he had to fade clubs against his opponent’s {a-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} flush draw.

The turn was the {Q-Spades} which didn’t change anything and the {7-Diamonds} bricked the river. Hullah sent one to the rail to move up to a commanding 81,000 in chips.
