Full Tilt ANZPT Ambassador Liam O’Rourke just strolled over to the media desk and asked if any of his friends had busted yet.
We told him no, just him, and then asked what happened.
“I played poker and I lost,” quipped O’Rourke.
Sounds like a bad beat story.
“I just played really bad,” O’Rourke added.
Maybe not a bad beat story then, but when we asked for more information, it sounds like a pretty bad beat.
“King-high straight flush into a Royal,” O’Rourke said, tongue firmly in cheek.
Unlucky.

Tom Grigg is another big stack that has emerged early on Day 1b. According to Grigg, he’s been “three-betting with rags and smashing flops”.
Grigg recalled a three-bet with the old seven-four offsuit which struck two pair on the flop to get three streets of value, and from there he’s been running over his table.
“Tournaments are easy when you’re smashing flops!” laughed Grigg as he sits behind 65,000 in chips.

Shivan Abdine has just been eliminated from the tournament, while David Stanton has snagged a very large pot.
We arrived at the action with a flop out on the felt and with Stanton having checked to Abdine, who bet an unspecified amount. We say unspecified, as before we could count the bet, Stanton had raised to 2,700, Abdine had moved all in for 12,325 and Stanton had called.
Stanton held for top two pair, while Abdine held for the nut flush draw.
The turn and the river were of no help to Abdine and with that he left the tournament area. Stanton is up to around 45,000 in chips and will be looking for more poker success here in Perth after finishing 26th in the recent Aussie Millions Main Event.

Lukas Byrns has just fallen to the rail, courtesy of Tony Tartaglia.
The hand began when a player opened to 925 from under the gun. Tartaglia then three bet to 2,575 from middle position and
Byrns moved all in for 6,250 from the small blind. There was a fold from under the gun and then Byrns heard the one word he didn’t want to hear come out of Tartaglia’s mouth: “Aces.”
Tartaglia’s hit the felt, while Byrns tabled .
The board ran out and with that Byrns was eliminated.
Tartaglia has moved his stack towards 50,000.
