Healy Back to Start

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Patrick Healy might have won the 6-Max event last night, but his Main Event has just hit a bump after being forced to give up
on a sizable pot.

We picked it up on the flop of {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} with Healy check-raising to 11,000 after his opponent had bet 4,400. The player called and the turn was the {3-Hearts}. It put three hearts out there and that was enough for Healy to slow with a check. His opponent announced himself all in for 18,600 which Healy wasn’t pleased about.

It represented most of his remaining chips, and after some thought, Healy let it go. He’s back to a start stack of 20,000.

Bye Bye Ivan

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

We arrived on a board of {9-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} to see Ivan Zalac move all in for his last 8,300 in chips. His opponent deliberated for a few moments before calling off his remaining chips.

Zalac was sheepish in showing his cards, knowing that his {9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} was probably behind, and indeed it was, as {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} was tabled.

“Put a bad beat on him dealer!” pleaded Zalac, but the {K-Spades} wasn’t it. Zalac was left with a few hundred in chips, and they were tossed in the middle a few moments later, never to return.

Tollgate Will Lose Some Sleep

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Tom Grigg has been trying to run over his table all day, but he has met some resistance from Vlad Rosca two seats to his left.

The two tangled in a recent pot that has left the Full Tilt Ambassador a little shell-shocked.

Rosca started with a raise under the gun and found one caller before Grigg made it 2,650 to go from the small blind. Rosca put in a four-bet to 5,200 which forced a fold from the third player, but Grigg came along to see a {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop.

Grigg checked and Rosca bet 4,000. Grigg made the call and the {9-Clubs} double-paired the board. Grigg tapped the table again and Rosca checked behind to see the {5-Clubs} appear on the river.

Grigg thought for a moment and checked for a third time, but Rosca tossed out 7,500 into the middle, leaving himself about 10,000 behind. Grigg was sent deep into the tank. He pained over the decision for a good five minutes, apologizing to the table on several occasions.

Grigg eventually tossed his cards into the muck in frustration.

“Do you want to see one?” posed Rosca.

“They are both the same!” declared Grigg who suspected a big pocket pair, but Rosca quickly proved that wrong as he flashed {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for a complete air-ball.

“Argh! I was so close to calling!” sighed Grigg. “I’m going to lose sleep over that tonight you bastard!”

Rosca climbs to 37,000 as he shows that he’s got some game, while Grigg drops back to 45,000.

Skunky Winning Chips

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

Earlier in the day, prominent Aussie player Tristan Bain was down to under 10,000 in chips. Now he is back up to 35,000 after we caught him taking down a couple of small back-to-back pots.

The first hand began when Bain opened to 1,200 from under the gun plus one. Both players from the blinds called and then check-folded to a bet of 2,100 from Bain on the {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop.

The very next hand, Bain opened to 1,200 once again, this time from under the gun. The player directly on Bain’s left called and so too did the small blind. The {5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{7-Spades} would see it checked to Bain, who bet 1,650. The player on his left called, while the small blind quickly folded. Bain led for 4,200 on the {9-Spades} turn and took it down.

Readers may recall that Bain, under the screen name "SkunkDen", took home just under $800,000 when he chopped the landmark 10th anniversary Sunday Million in 2011. That was the largest single online tournament result from any Australian poker player in history.

Lim Late Loomer

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

ANZPT Auckland champion David Lim is making good progress here late on Day 1b of the ANZPT Perth Main Event as he looked to become the first player to win two ANZPT titles.

In a recent pot, Lim bet out 6,500 on the turn before checking the river on the board of {10-Clubs}{A-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. His opponent checked behind and couldn’t better Lim’s {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} for a rivered pair of queens. Lim is up to 60,000.

Lim Climbing Late

Level 6 : 300/600, 75 ante

Dylan Honeyman and WSOP bracelet winner Aaron Lim are two of the best young players going around and they’ve just collided in a monstrous pot that handed Lim a big double up.

Picking it up on a flop of {6-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{5-Hearts}, action checked to Honeyman on the button who bet 4,000. That was called by a player in the small blind, before Lim upped the price to 12,500. Honeyman moved all in over the top to force a fold from the small blind, but Lim made a quick call.

Lim: {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Honeyman: {5-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

Lim was in front with his set and he faded clubs on the {2-Diamonds} turn and {8-Spades} river. Honeyman was left with 23,000 as Lim now climbs to 70,000 and looks set to end the day as one of the chip leaders.
