Pinzone Gone, Zhou Moving Up

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Day 1b chip leader Michael Pinzone has been eliminated short of the money in the Main Event. With the board reading {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{5-Hearts}, Pinzone was deep in the tank contemplating a river bet of 40,000 from Steven Zhou.

Eventually the clock was called and that was the trigger for Pinzone to slide out a call. Zhou showed {J-Clubs}{9-Spades} for a straight which was too good for Pinzone.

Pinzone was left with just 30,000 in chips which went into the middle moments later, never to return. Pinzone is out as Zhou is flying with 330,000 on a table with several of the tournament big stacks that includes Jazz Mathers and Jim Doumit.

Mathers Continues to Build

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Jazz Mathers has just taken some chips off Jim Doumit. We didn’t catch all the action, but we did see Mathers picking up a pot of around 75,000 on a {3-Spades}{4-Spades}{j-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} run out, with Mathers having {j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} on the felt, while Doumit’s hand was in the muck.

Mathers is up to 350,000 as we head towards the bubble, while Doumit is still crushing on well over 500,000.

Just Four Off Money

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

The tournament staff here at The Star have just got on the microphone and informed the players that we are down to 58 players.

Don't forget that the top 54 make the money, so there will be four disappointed players hitting the rail shortly.

Marsland Out, Hand-for-Hand Play Begins

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Two players have just been eliminated simultaneously to usher in hand-for-hand play.
One of the eliminations we missed, but the one that we saw was Dale Marsland’s elimination.

Marsland was all in with his short stack preflop holding {k-Spades}{10-Clubs} against Oliver Gill’s {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}.

Marsland was up on his feet as the dealer spread out a {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}{9-Spades} flop.

Then was getting ready to sit down when he hit a straight on the {q-Clubs} turn.

“Jack!” called out Gill hoping for a full house.

Ask and you shall receive.

River: {j-Diamonds}

Just like that Marsland was out.

We are down to 55 players, next player out is the bubble, while the top 54 make the money.

Swayers Survives Bubble

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Daniel Neilson opened to 6,000 and Nathan Sawyers made the call. Action the passed to Alex Lee in the small blind and he bumped it to 15,000. Neilson got out of the way but Sawyers made the call to see a flop of {5-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}.

Both players checked before Lee took the opportunity to bet 13,500 on the {9-Spades} turn. Sawyers made the call and the river was the {8-Clubs}. Lee fired again for 19,000 but Sawyers responded by moving all in for an additional 49,500.

Lee rolled his eyes before making the call but mucked when Sawyers opened {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for the flush. Sawyers survives a bubble elimination to double to 160,000 with Lee still comfy with 330,000

Brutal Beat for Davis

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Nathan Davis has just taken a brutal beat on the bubble.

He had {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} and had a player all in holding {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {5-Hearts}{10-Spades}{4-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} and Davis was left with just 40,000 after starting the day as one of the chip leaders.
