Mariakis Gives Some Away

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

The hand started with the player in middle position opening to 800 and finding a call from the player on the button. Michael Mariakis was on the big blind, and made the call, as all three saw the flop come down {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Spades}. Mariakis checked, as the player in middle position threw out a continuation bet of 2,000. The button folded, as Mariakis proceeded to ask for a count of his opponent’s chips.

Noticing he didn’t have a large stack behind, Mariakis raised to 5,700, which was enough to cover his opponent, who snap-called.

Mariakis: {7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Opponent: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}

The turn brought the {10-Spades}, meaning Mariakis could only hit a six on the river to eliminate his opponent. When the {K-Diamonds} fell instead, Mariakis had lost the pot.

“I didn’t think you had that,” said Mariakis, straight after the hand.

“Thanks, Michael,” responded his opponent, grateful to stay alive in the tournament.

Baby Flush for Wong

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

The player under the gun opened to 650, and was called by Kenny Wong in the hijack as well as the player in the big blind. The flop came down {4-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} and the three players checked. This happened again, when the {A-Spades} fell on the turn, and was repeated when the {10-Diamonds} completed the board. The player in the big blind showed his {Q-Spades}{6-Hearts} first, as Kenny Wong then tabled his {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} for a baby flush. Their opponent rolled over {A-Hearts}{J-Spades} for two-pair, but it wasn't enough.

Wong was appreciative of the small pot, as he moves up to 32,000 in chips.

Wong Falling

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

Kenny Wong opened to 700 from the button, before the player in the small blind raised to 1,650 from the small blind. Wong then four-bet to 3,300, which was called, as both players saw the flop come down {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}.

The player in the small blind checked to Wong, who led out for 5,500. After a moment of thinking about his decision, he moved all in for just over 30,000 in chips, which had Wong covered. Wong didn’t look very pleased with move, mucking his hand shortly after.

Healy Spikes

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

We didn’t catch any of the action, but arrived at the table to see Patrick Healy all-in for his last 13,100 in chips holding {9-Clubs}{9-Spades} which had rivered a set on a board showing {3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. Apparently he got all his chips in pre-flop against Michael Mariakis, who had pocket aces.

A lucky break for Healy, who moves up to 27,000, as Mariakis drops down to 22,000 in chips.

Guerin vs. Jones

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

We missed the action of a large hand that went down between Didier Guerin and Lacey Jones. A tournament director on the floor just happened to see the hand, and was more than happy to retell it back to us.

It started with Guerin opening with a min-raise from under the gun, and getting called by Lacey Jones to his left, as well as three other players on the table. The flop came {9-}{6-}{4-}, and Guerin threw out a continuation bet of 2,000 which only Jones called. The turn produced the {K-}, and Guerin didn’t slow down, betting out 5,000, which was again called. The {6-} completed the board, and Guerin casually bet out 9,000 in chips, and was called by Jones. He tabled {9-}{9-} for a full house, which brought a quick fold from Jones.

Guerin now sits on 50,000 as Jones drops down to 13,000 in chips.

Lin Gives it Up

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

Chen An Lin was the first player to act, and bet out 625 from under the gun, and found four callers to the flop. With the board showing {9-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, the big blind checked, as Lin threw out a continuation bet of 1,350. One player folded, before the player in the hijack raised to 3,325. It folded back around to Lin, who looked down at his cards, before throwing them into the muck.

Rossiter Loses a Few

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

With a flop reading {J-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts}, the player in the small blind checked. Jeff Rossiter was in the big blind, and bet out 2,725, which forced a fold from the other player in the hand, as the small blind called. The turn was the {6-Diamonds}, and the small blind once again checked his option. Rossiter thought about his decision, but opted to check also, as the {3-Diamonds} completed the board.

The player in the small blind then quickly bet out 3,600, bringing a fold from Rossiter, as he drops down to 15,250 in chips.

Francis Drops

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

Daniel Francis started things off with a bet of 600 from the button. He was called by the player in the big blind, as both saw the flop come {J-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. A check, saw Francis throw out a continuation bet of 600, which sent his opponent into the tank. A minute passed, and he opted to raise to 1,700, which was called by Francis, as the {4-Clubs} fell on the turn. Another check didn’t slow down Francis, who bet out another 2,600. His opponent again went into the tank, but this time chose to move all in for 14,175, which was snap-called as the players tabled their cards.

Francis: {J-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

Unfortunately for Francis, he’d fallen behind as his opponent had turned a flush. The {7-Spades} was not enough on the river, as he drops down to 28,000 in chips.
