In The Neighborhood

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

Floridian Ben White is a long way from home. But he told PokerNews he fired here on Day 1 a of the APPT Manila Main Event simply because he was in the neighborhood.

So far things are going swimmingly for the American, who finds himself among the early leaders and hasn't really had to show down too many hands.

"Just a lot of medium sized pots without showdown," he said. "I'm running good."

Baker's Dozen

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

Sydney, Australia's Derek Baker has emerged as the early chip leader here, picking up two big pots without showing down a hand.

He told PokerNews the first one came courtesy of a four-way pot where he floated a couple of bets before making a big check-raise on the river and forcing a fold.

The second came when he joined one caller of a 400-chip raise from the button and the blinds came along for the ride, going five ways to a {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop. The original raiser c-bet , making it 650 and everyone called.

The turn brought the {K-Hearts} and when it checked to Baker, he made it 1,200. Only the big blind called. The river was the {k-Clubs} and after the big blind checked, Baker fired again, making it 4,300. The big blind folded and Baker dragged the pot, grabbing hold of the chip lead.

Yong Kim Doubles Through

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Winfred Yu and Gab Yong Kim were involved in a raising war and about 7,000 chips were already pulled in the middle, presumely the raising chips that had been invested. Yong Kim was then all in for another 14,950 and Yu looked over to his opponent. "This is a re-entry event?" he asked the dealer and received a nod.

The High Roller regular then made the call and let out a "makes sense" when the Korean turned over his {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}. Yu only held {J-Spades}{J-Hearts} and failed to improve with the board running out {Q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. The Hong Kong native is down to about half the starting stack.

Lin Spikes Perfect River

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

PokerStars Team Pro Celina Lin was just spotted in a heads-up pot and the board had already reached the {2-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts} turn. Lin made a bet of 850 from the cutoff and the player from one seat over called before the {5-Spades} fell on the river. Now Lin grabbed more chips and fired a bet worth 2,350.

Her opponent tanked for a mere minute and called before getting shown the {6-Spades}{9-Hearts} for a six-high straight, sighing out loudly. The PokerStars Team Pro smiled over to this very blogger: "Are you gonna report this?" Yes, just done.

Chen Gives up River

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

About 6,000 chips were in the pot and the {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} board was complete. Pete Chen had checked in middle position and faced a bet of 4,000 by his sole opponent to eventually let his cards go after checking them once. Next to Chen is Dennis Wilke and the German has been over here for holiday for two weeks already before now playing some poker again.

Another familiar face is Brian Mcallister from Australia, who travels the Asian circuit a lot.
