₩10,000,000 APPT Super High Roller

Day 1 Completed

Jun Obara Leads the Final 21 in 2019 PokerStars Korea APPT Super High Roller

Level 12 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Jun Obara
Jun Obara

The first day of the ₩10,000,000 APPT Super High Roller ($8,767) has now come to an end and it will be Jun Obara finding himself in the driver's seat, bagging the chiplead with an impressive 1,465,000.

Obara sat around average for most of the day and it was not until right after the last break of the day that he would start to spin up a stack. He would take his first leap forward against Wayne Zhang's big slick, when he rivered a flush to take down the pot and secure a full double through Zhang.

He would continue to climb during the last three levels of play, opening up and taking down a lot of hands preflop. Obara soon after found himself in a pot with aces against Norihiro Otani's pocket queens and Xiaqing Ji with king-eight suited. He would lose to Ji's flush, but took down the side pot, bumping him over the million mark for the first time and he never went back as he finished atop the field.

The day began with just eight players and when the first break came around there were almost 30 signed up. By the end of the nine levels of registration a total of 65 entry slips were sold, with 54 of those entries being unique and 11 being re-entries. This generated a prize pool of ₩611,585,000 ($537,210) and nine places would be paid. A min-cash will be pulling in ₩17,736,000 ($15,608) and the eventual winner will be taking home ₩178,890,000 ($157,423).

Team PokerStars Pro Celina Lin managed to spin up a stack during the latter half of the day after struggling to get much going earlier in the day. She would be as low as 92,500 before finding a much needed double through Wai Kiat Lee with her pocket threes against his ace-king. She continued to run up a stack after that double and will now be starting the second day in fourth place on the leaderboard.

Some other well-known pros to advance include Randy Lew (775,000), Michael Soyza (635,000), Sparrow Cheung (470,000), and World Series of Poker bracelet winner Calvin Lee (320,000).

Day 2 will start at 1:00 p.m. local time in the Paradise City Resort & Casino poker room and will continue with the blind levels at 40-minutes in length. The tournament will have a 10-minute break after every three levels of play and will not stop until a winner is crowned.

Day 1 has Completed

Level 12 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

The first day of the ₩10,000,000 APPT Super High Roller has now come to an end with 21 players finding a bag. A recap of the day will be posted shortly.

Late Double for Soyza

Level 12 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

In the last hand of the night, Michael Soyza check-shoved for 240,000 on the river of a completed board of {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades}. His opponent was Dong Chen, who had bet 75,000 on the button, and eventually called.

Soyza rolled over the {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} for aces and kings, and Chen took a hit with his {k-Spades}{j-Spades}.

"Back in the game," Soyza said while he stacked the chips.

Chen Takes It All From Doddaiavar

Level 12 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Yasreel Praveen Doddaiavar
Yasreel Praveen Doddaiavar

After previously losing more than half of his big stack, Yasreel Praveen Doddaiavar had moved all in twice to claim the blinds and big blind ante. He then opened to 40,000 in the hijack and Jiang Chen moved all in from the button for around 640,000. Doddaiavar used two time bank extensions and called for around 550,000.

Yasreel Praveen Doddaiavar: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Jiang Chen: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

There was no help for Doddaiavar on a {j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{7-Clubs} board and he was eliminated during the final hands of the night.

Five More Hands

Level 12 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

In a three-bet pot to the {7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop, Jiang Chen jammed out of the big blind and Celina Lin sent her cards into the muck after brief consideration. Despite losing this pot, the late stages of Day 1 had been kind to PokerStars ambassador Lin, as she is just shy of a million in chips.

After the hand was over, the last five hands of the night were announced.

Randy Lew is on the same table that previously featured Hiroyuki Noda, who was eliminated a few minutes ago along with Chin Wei Lim.

Ji called for his remaining 380,000 stack and turned over {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} for a pair of aces. Jiang tabled {j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a flush draw and the dealer flipped over a {4-Clubs} on the turn.

The river came down a {k-Diamonds} and Jiang completed his flush, sending Ji home and scooping in the massive pot.

Lei Yu
Lei Yu

Lei Yu opened and Yake Wu in the cutoff three-bet to 82,000, which then prompted a four-bet to 205,000 by Yu. Wu called and the {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop brought a bet of 70,000 by Yu, which Wu called.

Both opted to check the {3-Spades} turn and Yu moved all in after the {a-Spades} river. Wu smiled, let 20 seconds on his time bank pass before asking for a count. The jam was for 294,000 and Wu used one time bank before making the call.

Yu rolled over {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} and Wu mucked the {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}.

"I should have made a move, I had ace-jack," Michael Soyza on the button said.
