Day 1b Completed
After another early start and eight levels of play, Day 1b of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour Auckland Main Event has come to an end.
SKYCITY Auckland Casino had 93 players take their seats for a respectable Day 1b field. The day started with several recognizable players including 2013 ANZ Player of the Year Iori Yogo as well local poker pro Jackson Zheng. Unfortunately for these two, their days would end relatively short. Others to also fall today were Justin Walch, Adrian Attenborough and Angelina Rich.
When all the chips were finally bagged and tagged, it was local Mehrdad Razmi who stormed away from Australian poker pro Alex Lynskey to capture the chip lead at the end of the day. He finished with a 186,500-chip stack to lead his 32-strong field into Day 2. Right on his tail was Lynskey (137,400) and Zoran Forac (131,100). All had fantastic second halves to their days, and will be amongst the chip leaders heading into Day 2.
Day 1c is set to kick off tomorrow (Friday) at 10:15 a.m NZST. We’ll be hoping to see another 90 runners take to the felt, to surpass the 230-player mark for the entire event. Make sure to join the PokerNews Live Reporting Team, for more exciting action!

The tournament clock has been paused and the players have been told there will be five more hands before Day 1b of the APPT Auckland Main Event. Be sure to stay tuned to find out who finishes as the chip leader and all the end-of-day counts.
One of our chip leaders, Zoran Farac, has just added even more chips to his stack after making a good call against Alex Lynskey on the river of a board. Farac had led for 4,200 on the flop and then check-called a bet of 5,500 on the river.
At showdown, Lynskey tabled for just jack-high, while Farac had for a pair of fives, which was good enough to scoop up the pot.
Farac is certainly looking like a threat to finish as the chip leader. It's just Mehrdad Razmi who will be looking to stop him.
With a board showing and around 20,000 in the pot, Minh Nguyen checked his option. Wayde Rickhuss was the other player in the hand and he bet out 5,000 in chips. With the decision back on Nguyen he shoved a stack of 5,000-chips into the middle which forced Rickhuss all in. He committed his remaining 15,000 and both players tabled their cards.

Rickhuss:
Unfortunately for Rickhuss his pocket aces had been out flopped by Nguyen’s pocket queens which had improved to a set. The on the river was no help as Rickhuss was sent to the rail just shy of the end of play.
Nguyen moves up to 88,000 in chips.
Player | Chips | Progress |
---|---|---|
Minh Nguyen | 88,000 | 3,000 |
Wayde Rickhuss | Busted |
Just a short while ago Jackson Zheng lost a massive pot when he couldn't win a race with pocket queens against ace king. He was down to just a few big blinds after that hand and now we have spotted Zheng on the rail, clearly unable to rebuild a stack and make it through the night.

For much of the late stages of the day it's looked like Mehrdad Razmi would end up as our end-of-day chip leader, but Zoran Farac has built his own hefty stack and is now looking dangerous. He's up to 130,000 around halfway into the final level of the night.

Zoran Farac | 130,000 |
Alex Lynskey is back up to 85,000.
He recently took down a pot on the turn of a board.
It was Lynskey and two other players. Both players checked the flop to Lynskey and he bet 2,500. The next player to act check-raised to 5,500 and a fold would send the play to Lynskey. He called and then on the turn Lynskey’s opponent led for 8,500 and left himself with around 8,000 behind. At this point Lynskey put out 50,000 to put the player all in. He had already committed so much of his stack, but ultimately tank folded and sent the chips to Lynskey.

Alex Lynskey | 85,000 | -5,000 |
We arrived at the table just as the player in middle position had raised pre flop. Jackson Zheng then came over the top with a bet of 6,200 from the hijack as the decision fell back on the original raiser. He moved all in for his last 33,100 and was snap called by Zheng.
Zheng:
Opponent:
Zheng had the lead with the pair of queens but it wouldn’t stay like that as the board ran out to see his opponent spike a couple of queens and take down the pot.
