Table of Death

One very interesting table has formed in front of our desk here on table 4 which is going to prove a tough way to start out a tournament.

Steve Wong, Steve Yeh, Liz Lieu, Tommy Le and David Chiu are all seated together in one of the toughest table draws you'll find.

Another Champ Makes Late Arrival

Another champion has just strolled past our desk on the way to take his seat in today's field. Stewart Scott rose to prominence by being the first Australian player to win the Aussie Millions in January this year when he pocketed a cool AU$2 million.

Since that time Scott has picked up a 3rd place in a side event of the WPT Championships for another $119k and just last week picked up another trophy in the local Victorian Poker Championships.

November Nine in the Hizzy

Seated all the way in the back right corner, right next to 2008 November Nine member Chino Rheem and doing his best to look as inconspicuous as possible, is one member of the 2009 November Nine -- James Akenhead. Akenhead was the runner-up in a WSOP bracelet event in 2008, cashing for more than US$500,000. He had several small five-figure cashes thereafter before hitting the poker lottery at this year's WSOP by making the final table of the Main Event and guaranteeing himself at least US$1.2 million.

Based on a quick peek at his results, this looks like it could be Akenhead's first poker tournament in Asia. We'll be keeping a close eye on the lad to see how he goes.

Filippi's Rough Start

Amnon Filippi is off to a slow start after firing a bet of 500 on the turn before committing another 675 on the river on a board of {J-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}.

His opponent thought long and hard before making the call as Filippi flipped {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for the busted flush draw. His opponent showed {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} to take it down. Filippi slips to 8,000.

Who's Here?

Our first sweep of the beautiful Galaxy Starworld Hotel tournament floor has uncovered a wealth of local and international poker talent.

Featuring in today's field are the high-profile "APT Poker Pack" which includes the likes of world-class players Nam Le, JC Tran, Tommy Le, Quinn Do and Chino Rheem.

The poker divas are well represented today with Liv Boeree and Liz Lieu catching the attention of photographers, while runner-up from both 2008 APT Macau and 2009 APT Manila events, Steve Yea is here today and looking to finally become the bride rather than the bridesmaid.

Other notables in the field are the Australian contignent of Dave Lee, Julian Powell, Joel Dodds and Dennis Huntly, while Amnon Filippi is also taking to the felt today.

Here We Go Again

We're still in Macau at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino. Things are starting to take shape in the 8th floor ballroom for Day 1B of the 2009 Asian Poker Tour Macau Main Event.

Yesterday David Steicke was the start-to-finish leader of a field of 133 players. Today more than 200 are expected to take to the felt for 10 one-hour levels of play. If the numbers from yesterday are any guide, about 55 to 60 should make it through to tomorrow's Day 2.
