Huntly Busto

Dennis Huntly's 2009 APT Macau Main Event is over. Huntly was one of four players in the pot on a board of {A-Spades} {10-Spades} {9-Hearts} {6-Spades}. One player checked to J.C. Tran, who bet 425. Huntly called before the button raised to 2,000. That folded the first player, but Tran and Huntly both called.

The river fell {A-Diamonds}, with each player checking. Tran showed {10-Clubs} {Q-Spades}, which was no good against the button's small flush, {7-Spades} {8-Spades}. Huntly flashed the {K-Spades} and mucked.

Down to just 100 chips, Huntly put them in from under the gun on the next hand. One player made a queen high flush with {Q-Hearts} {5-Hearts} on a board of {Q-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}.

"Good luck people," Huntly said as he got up.

Double For Dodds

Australian Joel "StrongPlay" Dodds has found an early double up. We don't have the details of the action but Dodds' {Q-Spades}{10-Spades} collected the pot with a flush on a {J-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{9-Spades} board against an opponent who tabled {8-?}{9-?} for two pair.

Dodds is up to 20,000.

Lieu Chips Up Early

Liz Lieu
Liz Lieu
Liz Lieu has chipped up nicely in the early stages of this tournament as he just caught her making a value bet of 1,700 on a board of {K-Hearts}{5-Spades}{7-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}. Her opponent made the call as Lieu flipped {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} for top pair. It was good to take the pot as her opponent mucked.

Lieu is up to 15,500.

Steve Yea Also on the Rail

Titans of Asian Poker continue to fall at a rapid pace. We looked up from Media Row and noticed that Steve Yea -- runner-up at 2008 APT Macau and 2009 APT Manila -- was no longer in his seat. A quick chat with the always lovely Liz Lieu confirmed that Mr. Yea has departed the tournament for good.

Akenhead Lets One Go

James Akenhead has taken a hit in a multi-way pot after being forced to make a big laydown on the river.

Akenhead fired 500 into the flop of {J-Spades}{7-Clubs}{10-Hearts} before before raised to 1,500 by the player in the cutoff. Akenhead made the call and they saw the {A-Hearts} fall on the turn. Akenhead checked and his opponent fired 2,600. Again Akenhead made the call.

The river brought the {6-Hearts} and Akenhead checked again to his opponent who thought for a moment before committing all of his last 5,550 chips. Akenhead went into the tank but eventually let it go to drop down to around 5,500 before the end of the first level.

Tommy Le Eliminated

Tommy Le has joined Chino Rheem as an early casualty from the APT Main Event. The hand was recalled to us by tablemate Steve Wong, who informed us that Le had raised to 150 from under the gun and found six callers.

The flop came down {6-?}{K-Spades}{8-Spades} and Le fired 600 was folded all of the table, except for the player in the big blind who check-raised an additional 1,000. Le made the call.

The turn was a {3-?} and the big blind bet out, Le raised, the BB player moved all in and Le called with {6-?}{8-?} for two pair, but his opponent flipped pocket threes for the turned set.

The river was a brick and Le was eliminated!

As If There Wasn't Enough Going On...

In addition to the $4,400 poker tournament that's being conducted in this room today, a movie is also being shot. The Chinese movie "Poker King" is using the tournament as one of its sets, with many of the actual poker players filling in as incidental extras. TD Matt Savage had the unenviable task of figuring out how to add two stars of the movie into the actual tournament even though they would not really be playing. His solution was to give those two players jokers as their cards and explicit instructions to his dealers that the players were not to be dealt any additional cards or to be allowed to add any chips to any pot.

Chino Rheem Beats a Quick Exit

Chino Rheem
Chino Rheem
We overheard Chino Rheem relating what sounded like a bad beat tale to Tommy Le as he headed out of the tournament room. A quick check of Rheem's starting seat showed no chips in front of it. Players at the table related that Rheem had turned either trip fives or a small full house on a board of {5-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {5-?}. But disaster hit on the river {K-?} for Rheem, as his opponent was playing pocket kings and hit a bigger full house.

Rheem is out of the tournament.

Interesting Draw

In the center of the room, another table has drawn some attention. The late arrival of Chau Giang has put Giang, J.C. Tran and Dennis Huntly all in a row in the 5-, 6- and 7-seats.
