Lechich Takes One Off Rho

Tino Lechich raised to 60,000 and Peter Rho made the call in the big blind.

The flop landed {3-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{K-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn was the {5-Diamonds} and Rho checked to Lechich who fired 75,000. Rho beat him into the pot with a call.

The river was the {J-Hearts} and both checked. Lechich tabled {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} to take it down.

Gruneberg Wins Blind Battle

The action folded around to Tino Lechich in the small blind who raised to 70,000. Zach Gruneberg made the call in the big blind.

The flop came down {5-Spades}{A-Spades}{K-Hearts} and Lechich led for 75,000. Gruneberg then cut down his chips before splashing 275,000 into the middle to send Lechich into the tank.

Lechich removed his glasses and rubbed his face in his hands as he anguished over the decision. He eventually let it go and Gruneberg wins the blind war. Lechich slips back to 550,000 with Gruneberg up to 980,000.

Dixon Ruecker Crippled

We weren't certain who was the all-in player in a hand between Dixon Ruecker and Sam Capra. Ruecker opened from the big blind for 50,000; Capra was next to act and made it 190,000 to go. Ruecker went into the tank for several minutes before moving all in. Capra called.

Ruecker: {K-Clubs} {J-Hearts}
Capra: {6-Spades} {6-Diamonds}

Both players had reached the stage of the tournament where they were willing to take a race. This one went to Capra on a board of {Q-Clubs} {5-Spades} {3-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}. His sixes held, to the loud cheers of several Capra supporters on the rail. When the stacks were counted down, Ruecker was left with 30,000. Capra is on 1.0 million now.

Ruecker was the button on the next hand and folded after Richard Ashby limped in.

Ramakrishnan Takes it with Overbet

Elliot Smith raised to 50,000 from under the gun before Rajkumar Ramakrishnan popped it up to 200,000 from the cutoff. Smith made the call and they saw a flop of {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

Smith checked and Ramakrishnan moved all in for over 900,000 which was enough to cover his opponent. Smith lifted his sunglasses and stared directly at Ramakrishnan intently for a good two minutes before folding.

Ramakrishnan moved to 1.4 million with Smith back to 810,000.

Dixon Ruecker Eliminated in 12th Place (AU$80,000)

Dixon Ruecker - 12th Place
Dixon Ruecker - 12th Place
Dixon Ruecker moved his last 26,000 in preflop from middle position before Annica Ivert raised to 90,000 from the small blind. The action was then with Stewart Scott in the big blind who, perhaps sensing that Ivert was trying to isolate against the short-stacked player, put in a four-bet to 220,000. It worked as Ivert folded her hand.

Scott: {Q-Spades}{7-Spades}
Ruecker: {J-Hearts}{2-Clubs}

The board fell {K-Hearts}{3-Spades}{4-Spades}{J-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and Scott's incredible rush continues as he makes an unlikely flush to eliminate Ruecker from the tournament in 12th place. He'll take home AU$80,000.

Stewart Scott in the Bully Pulpit

Stewart Scott has the most chips and he's putting them to good use. In position, he called a raise to 55,000 from Annica Ivert. Sam Capra also called out of the blinds. All three players checked the {7-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} flop. On the turn, Ivert took a stab at the pot with a bet of 72,000, roughly half-pot. Scott raised that bet to 175,000, folding Capra and Ivert in turn.

Gruneberg Again Gets Better of Lechich

Tino Lechich raised to 55,000 from the cutoff and Zach Gruneberg made the call on the button.

The flop landed {J-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn was the {10-Diamonds} and Lechich checked to Gruneberg who fired 65,000. Lechich made the call.

The river brought the {7-Clubs} and again it was checked through. Lechich tabled {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a big draw on the turn that ended up with a pair of sevens but it wasn't enough as he was outkicked by Gruneberg's {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts}.

Gruneberg takes another nice pot from Lechich to leave him in trouble on the short stack.

Boatman Up to his Neck

Stewart Scott continues to punish the short stacks at his table by making bets they can't call. He opened for 55,000 and was matched by small blind Barny Boatman. The flop came down ace-high, {A-Clubs} {10-Spades} {7-Diamonds}. Boatman checked to Scott, who made it 100,000 to see the turn. Boatman called.

The turn was a seeming blank, the {2-Hearts}. Again Boatman checked. This time, Scott bet 275,000. It was a small bet for him, but a huge bet for Boatman, who had only 506,000 left behind. He elected to fold so that he could look for a better spot.

Anyone for Tennis?

As we tick over into Saturday the focus for most railbirds has turned to the Australian Open tennis replay on the big screen as the action on the felt has ground to a screeching halt.

The speculation continues as to how late this day might finish. Our early guess was between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. which is still a few hours away. Grab a cup of coffee folks!

Flops Endangered at Table 14

In the last fifteen minutes, there has been exactly one flop at Table 14. Rajkumar Ramakrishnan took the pot down with a single bet. Two other times, there was a raise and a reraise preflop, but no call. Every other pot has been a raise-it-and-take-it affair.
